Hi. We (husband + 2 children) would like to go to France for the first time next August. We would need to go Plymouth-Roscoff as we live in South Devon and don't want to be travelling for hours in the car just to get to a cheaper ferry port.
Brittany Ferries appear to have the monopoly at Plymouth so just wondering what we can do to get the price down. For this year a return journey in August for car, trailer and cabin each way is over £600 so I was hoping there may be things we can do in order to reduce this cost for next year.
Do you know of any deals run by BF or when we should book for the best deals? Do we book direct or through an agent?
All advice gratefully received.
Many thanks

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Look for a kind soul on here who will give you their friends and family number from the BF club
That will knock 10% off the price of the crossing (but not the cabins etc)
or join the club for a £600 price it worth joining the club as its about £120 to join but you'll get £180 off
next years fee is then only £60 so it'll pay off

The Portsmouth/Cherbourg crossing is Sundays only as they use the Clipper for the Channel Islands routes Monday to Saturday. That offer is good value though.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?
We were in the same position as you last year and borrowed someone else's BF code and saved 10%.
Looking at the facts and figures this year one Plymouth Roscoff crossing makes it worth while joining Club Voyage, more so if you do the overnight with cabins as you get breakfast vouchers per person.
As Andy said, it gets better the second year as you pay a joining fee in year 1 only.
If you aren't sure then I'll gladly return the favour and share my code.
Thanks ever so for all your comments. I found the Club Voyage info and as we hope to travel to France with another family next year I have suggested to them that we split the cost and they become "associate" members. Both families get 30% off the ticket price for only £80 each. Seems worth it!

It's usually cheaper to go on the daytime sailings at 3 pm. In August on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Plymouth rather than on the overnight sailings. On that afternoon sailing you save again by not needing a cabin. The ship arrives late at Roscoff but there are places to stay overnight with a caravan. Of those two the mid week sailing will always be cheaper than the weekend.
There are also 8am. sailings from Plymouth on various days in the week, and they are usually cheaper than going overnight with a cabin. If you live too far away to get to Millbay for 7am loading then you could consider going there the night before and sleeping there at the port.

Why not drive further in UK, to Portsmouth and go with LD lines? Or Brittany Economie to be launched later in year, although I understand still more expensive than LD.
I just Googled 'Brittany Ferry members codes' and loads came up - just booked with a 10% crossing discount on St Malo, Plymouth for June. Crossed from Portsmouth Roscoff last year also used code found on Google. I believe the members can only use the code 15 times a year but lots are willing to share it as long as you let them know by e-mail.
I tracked BF most of last year to try and bag the cheapest offers but nothing ever came up. Good luck
