Check out the Northern Loire nr Saumur. the campsite we aim for in this area is 'Le Chantepie', it afford fabulouse views over the Loire, lovely site well maintained, and it is a good base to explore from. We always go will into the middle of France. if there's aren't any vineyrds it just doesn't feel right somehow. Epernay and the chmapgane region is lovely but there are very few campsites. We tend to use the municipal in Chablis to view this area. Two of our favourite regions are Burgundy (for its culture), and Bordeaux for the beautiful coatsline and calming effect of the endless pinetrees. This year its the Aveyron for us. If is is still published trty and get a copy of 'Secret France', its a coffee table book but has served us well over the past 17yrs. Brittany is great for a taster I guess but you will find every region has its own unique character. I even notoce the difference in dialects now, the nearer to paris you are the harsher the consonants in their diction. Bordeaux is a really laid back region and is home to such beautiful places as St Emillion and Bordeaux City. Many Parisiens have holiday homes in Aquitaine. Epernay and the Champagne region has a air of superiority and is certainly wealthy especiualy near the champagne houses. Burgundy is majestic with Beaune as its former home of the duchy of Burgundy. Rhone Alps, again majestic and a wonderful feel it it. We were in Annecy last year, whilst it is a bit too commercial for my tatse it is certainly a great place to explore the alps from. Enjoy discovering France I do love France, which is probably why we have been there every year since we first had a taster many years ago. Someplaces just draw you back.
