We are going to Southern Ireland for a couple of weeks this May / June
We wanted to go to Galway and surrounding areas. But reading the trip adviser feedback reports the campsite there ( Salthill) gets slated the main reason according to many reviewers is the arrogant owner who is very aggressive to campers. Does anyone know good campsites around that area close to the coast. That doesn't have such an owner ?????
Also what is the cheapest ferry from Hollyhead for a Motorhome please.

we are going to france in august and would appreciate if anyone has info on (is it possible to park in the port of La Rochelle) in our M Home ?

There is an excellent eco site on Galway bay. Clifden eco campsite.
Friendly and helpful and in the dunes. Not bad and I think they take motorhomes.

Tesco Vouchers will cut the cost if you have any and Irish Ferries from Holyhead will take as many vouchers as you can provide.
Stena from Holyhead also take the vouchers but you can only pay a certain amount in vouchers.
Ferries to Ireland are very expensive.   I have yet to find a good campsite around Galway. About an hour away I would recommend Nagles at Doolin - See here

We have been to quite a few parts of Ireland (OH is from Donegal). I have to say that we didn't like the Galway area very much (but the weather didn't help). We didn't stay on a site so can't help with that.

We did like the Dingle area, the Ring of Kerry, Mayo and Donegal of course. Most sites are very expensive (we think so anyway).

Anne

Does it have to be Galway? Anyway if it does have to be then Clifden Eco Campsite is the way to go.

Salthill is a bit tacky, touristy, amusement arcades and bars. The unwashed masses descend mid July through to August but it would be better in May/July.

Have a look here first: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results.asp?county=S%20Ireland.
This will give you reviews as well as the sites.
As I said earlier Nagles at Doolinin Co Mayo is excellent in low season. There is also a lovely site in Northern Ireland in Co Fermanagh which is on the border with Co Sligo and Co. Donegal.   You use £stg. here

Have a look and read the reviews.

We stayed at the Salthill site last May and found the owner was perfectly all right, no problems at all!  We had a lovely pitch overlooking the sea.  Galway itself is an interesting old city and not particularly tacky, in May anyway, but we found parking expensive.  We spent a day driving along the coast and into Connemara - wonderful wild scenery.

We also stayed at Doolins which is a lovely site in a lovely area.  Another one we liked was Strandhill in Co. Sligo.  I've done reviews of them all.  The West of Ireland is so beautiful and has a special character you won't find anywhere else.

Newtown Cove near the town of Tramore is quite a good site. Galway City is lovely.

Ah well then, the obvious choice is Mannix Point, Co Kerry. I couldn't recommend this highly enough. It's right on the coast, you potentially have a few steps from your tent/caravan to the waters edge. Mortimer who runs it is a lovely guy who will bend over backwards to make sure you are ok, and it's in the middle of an amazing amount of scenery - think high mountain passes and golden beaches. I went last year and wrote about it on this thread

Rosses Point in Co Sligo is right on the beach as well and has some lovely views.
