Hi all, not been on here for some time as life been and still is very stressful. We are off to France staying in a Roan mobile in Provence and the Cote d/Azur this August and it cant come soon enough. Taking the easy option and flying to Nice and hiring a car.
Just been reading through some posts in this section seeing what I've missed

Hi, sorry to hear things have been difficult. I know what you mean about missing France. It's about this time of year as we move into spring which gets me most. With good weather around the corner.........or at least in theory anyway! We love the long drive south to the coast and the anticipation of time well spent......usually doing very little when we're there. France is a perfect place for a loafer!

We're doing two trips this year and for the first time we don't have our own unit after selling the campervan. So its a mobile in May and a shared house with two of our daughters/boyfriends in August......but no flying. I hate it.

We'll see how it goes this year and make a decision later about what unit to get. I'll miss the magic of having our own stuff and finding the perfect pitch. I can see another campervan on the horizon but I'm concerned that Mrs Bigtoe will start to like the good life too much. Home comforts and all! Give me a field with a river, a glass of the local stuff and a whopping bowl of moules anyday.

Yep know the feeling, we have not been to France since July 2012, we were booked to go July 2013 but due to delay with our house move had to cancel.

So not only have we not been to France during the last 2 years, we have not had a holiday either.

So to say that we are looking forward to our fortnight campings in the South of France this July, would definitely be an understatement .

You are so lucky savanne1 to be able to Fly Drive and rent Static, way to go enjoy.

Welcome back Rhonda! We stayed at Domaine de Verdon very many years ago, with Eurocamp. My youngest was only 5 months old, and we went from there to Les Pecheurs at Roquebrune. Make sure you walk up to the church over Castellane for the views, and the magic atmosphere there.

We're looking forward to our trip(s) too - and I only keep going over the winter by looking at French houses (if only....................) and by keeping in touch with a friend who lives near Toulouse! Stories of 'we're sitting outside in the sheltered garden and the sun is shining..............' make me envious, especially this winter when it's been so wet and windy here.

welcome back savanne1- sorry to hear life been stressful. This little forum is on my favourites list for just that purpose....camping/france/sunshine....perfect antidote to wet & windy winter and the stresses and strains of life

We are off for just over 2 weeks sailing from Plymouth on 17th August overnight ....and then wherever its sunniest....many many sleeps...but I know its there...a little pocket of wonderful.

We got back in October last year and don't go off until Easter. It is a very long winter.

I have had to torment the grandchildren in order to keep sane.

Hello Rhonda, nice to see you on here again! Sorry to hear things have been stressful and difficult, but we're now getting well into March, with lighter nights not far away. I think that always does wonders for morale etc after the long winter months.

And having your trips to look forward to is also a big boost if you're feeling down. Keep looking upward and forward

thanks all, August seems a long way off at the min. Were going to Cornwall for a week at Easter but not able to due to sons illness. Hoping we can get away for a long weekend in June but its all up in the air as poor MIL ill again who would usually look after our teens.

OH is trying to convince me to get a VW T5 or a small campervan so maybe it'll be back to doing our own thing in 2015.
Francais, yes flydrive is going to be great, not cheap but by the time I factored in overnight stops, tolls and fuel it was almost the same price. Also means we get 2 weeks in the sun with OH only needing to take 2 weeks annual leave.

Yep, for our fortnight campings in Frejus during July, I have to book 3 weeks of work, so two overnight stops in France each way, and 14 nuits at the main campsite.

The 1000 mile journey each way is all part of the holiday for us, and we take our time.

Can't wait, counting the days, and getting all the kit ready like you do.

She's doing fine thanks Rhonda, and back to the consultant shortly to plan reconstruction. She's had bad arthritis since chemo ended but it's well controlled with meds. It's just fingers crossed and hope for nothing nasty returning.

Love your idea of a T5! Of all the ways to camp it is my favourite. I miss the campervan but I'm determined to put that right soon enough
