Can any seasoned traveller tell me whether it is worth paying the extra for a 'serviced' pitch ie with your own water supply and electricity?

We have used these pitches in the UK and found them to be very useful, especially for breaks in excess of one week.

Will our UK tap fittings connect to a French tap ie fully connected aquaroll or will we still have to top up our aquaroll manually, albeit from our own water tap?

Secondly, when a site says European plug, am I right in thinking that this is the twee two-pin plug as opposed to the weatherproof 'commando' style blue plug that we use here?

Yes 2pin French mains plug, so don't go there without your French ehu adaptor. French brass outdoor taps have same screw thread as UK & they also use same Hozelock connectors.

Rather think European plug is actually the big blue ones, the 2 pin variety are French, or indeed in other countries there are variations on the 2 pin theme. If you are thinking about continental touring, you are always best to carry a 2 pin to Euro adapter anyway. And you might prefer to have a reversed polarity adaptor.

Well come on guys it is Spring so why not dig up the chestnuts.

WRONG.
The Euro plug is exactly the same blue plug we use in this country, and now seems to be the most common used in France.
The old 2 pin French plug is very rare.

The majority of French sites we have been on have the 2 pin French plug. So the blue ones are maybe not as common as you think.

Pontless argument is pointless..No caravanner should be without French ehu adaptor in France.

Thanks for the updates. Water connections compatible with UK 'hoselock' style adaptors and/or screw thread.

Sounds as though it may be worth sourcing a two-pin to european connector then.

You can source one from your nearest Halfords, Go Outdoors, or caravan shop. Ask for French ehu adaptor.

Long time since I've used my two pin plug ... nearly always the three pin blue ceeform plug ... but have both in case we hit the odd prehistoric site.
Reverse polarity ... yawn ... thought that was dead and buried ... few bother ... I've never used one in thirty years ...

Always carry a french adaptor. There are still very many sites without the round blue one.
You may also find some sites where the water tap is slightly larger than ours so be prepared for a trip to the local diy store. Problem solved with an adaptor for a euro or so.

I have found that a lot of French sites that we visit have a tap and drain on every pitch ,at no extra cost.last year in Spain we shared a a tap with the next pitch so at first we couldn't connect water directly to the caravan. I noticed someone else using a plastic Hozelock type double tap to screw onto the brass tap on the pitch.i bought one at a garden centre and screwed it onto the tap,connected my caravan hose to one outlet and left the other one for my neighbour.I always check how much extra for water and drainage,don't mind a couple of euros extra but refuse to lay silly money for them. We usually, wash up in the van and use the van shower too,so having water and drainage is handy for us.

We're staying on a fully serviced pitch at La Ravoire (Lake Annecy)from 18th June and have just emailed them to try and ascertain what type of tap they use. Would hate to arrive minus water/waste containers only to find our water hose doesn't fit. SWMBO wouldn't be very happy!

If it dosen't you will be able to get fittings locally, any large supermkt should stock them in the diy/gardening section.

take the adaptor  we go every year and we need it at least twice    not every site has the eu version   re serviced sites   they are not universal so most sites are likely to be ones where you go to a central water supply/waste drop     they are fine and better for making communication with folk      we never use serviced sites  a. to save pennies   b. to be more sociable     water and waste are not a problem

The water connection on the sites we've been on tended to vary ,the last one had a tap on the pitch but it was a 3/4" hose and no local b&q had the right adaptor. I now carry a 2ft length of 2" hose which enables me to fill the aquaroll from any tap as the large diameter means it will go over anything!
