Thought we would try a northern crossing and visit Holland. I have read reviews but nothing is jumping out! 2 girls age 11 and 8. Love cycling so most areas seem to have paths but looking for recommended cycle trips as would rather park the car up for 2 weeks. some facilities for kids ie pool and playground. Any recommendations for sites? Was considering duinrell but thought it might be a little big!
Thanks for any help 😕

Have a look at these nature campsites http://www.natuurkampeerterreinen.nl/

They are a bit different from the bigger sites- depends on what you are looking for. We stayed at Schoonenberg which is an excellent location for visiting places (just north of Haarlem) but it is more of a basic site. We also stayed at De Bergvlietse Bossen which has more facilities, but maybe not so much a good area as a base for visiting places of interest.

The other thing is that when I search for places abroad I find different search terms have more success, e.g. instead of campsite search for camp grounds etc.

Been to Duinrell for past 3 years ... going to france this year .... Holland is cycle path .. from Duinrel, load nearby withing cycle range - the Hague, Leiden, and the Wassenaar coastal area and beyond ...
Duinrell has some quiet parts - Camping Natrual for example - but most people go to Duinrell for the "fun" activities - read into this what you wish.
I'm going to france to show the wife how expensive a camping holiday can be :)

Have a look at Ter Spegelt, at Eersel, just outside Eindhoven. Brilliant site for children!

I would wholeheartedly recommend touring, that bottom left bit is by far the busiest, so its good to get away from that, especially cycling with little kids. Its great going over the big dykes to the nature reserves like Oostvaardersplassen and Lauwersmeer. I think it makes for more of a holiday if you travel about. Go to Friesland, end of....
Duinrell makes me shudder...

Have a look at beekes Bergen we had a fantastic time there last year with loads to do for the kids including the pool, beach, lake activities and the safari park plus the play park. We did a lot of cycling around the site and it certainly kept our 11, 8 and 6 year olds active and entertained for a week.

Go to whichever towns, gardens, galleries, museums, national parks, historic harbours, breweries, restaurants that you want to see, and stay at whichever campsites are closest and convenient. The further you get from the crowded southern corner the better it gets.

But be sure to take your girls to Ann Frank's house and tell them the story.

Duinrell is perfect if you like drinking, loudly, outside your van in large groups. Or like going to lots of organised entertainment. I can't comment on low season, we've been twice, at Easter, and both times it's been pretty horrid on occasion. The area is lovely and we adore Holland. Go, just maybe not to Duinrell.

Low season is worse, according to their own security staff, as schools are allowed to bring large groups. I have a 40% off voucher for this year because of the problems I had last June (see my review). I would never go back. This wasn't our first visit but was by far the worst.

Has anybody used the Delftse Hout site? We stayed in Limburg last year at Vinkenhof and had a great time. Thinking Holland is flat we got a surprise quite hilly down in the south.

Yes, we stayed at Delftse Hout for 12 nights last June. Nice site and within walking (or cycling) distance of the town centre and a lovely lake next to the site with swimming beach, boating and fishing (With licence available from the site). We spent six weeks touring Holland and, apart from Duinrell, all the sites we stayed at were great.

That's spooky!!! Yes I think we did but never bumped into you. Great minds think alike eh! I was getting £374 return for the ferry from Newcastle. Thought that was good to avoid the long drive again

You can also get a bus outside the site to the railway station in Delft. So, if you don't want to take the car, it is easy to visit places of interest in the area. Our neighbours last year had a day out in Amsterdam by bus and train. I can thoroughly recommend a trip to Scheveningen beach.
