Been to Duinrell for past 3 years ... going to france this year .... Holland is cycle path .. from Duinrel, load nearby withing cycle range - the Hague, Leiden, and the Wassenaar coastal area and beyond ...
Duinrell has some quiet parts - Camping Natrual for example - but most people go to Duinrell for the "fun" activities - read into this what you wish.
I'm going to france to show the wife how expensive a camping holiday can be :)

Have a look at Ter Spegelt, at Eersel, just outside Eindhoven. Brilliant site for children!

I would wholeheartedly recommend touring, that bottom left bit is by far the busiest, so its good to get away from that, especially cycling with little kids. Its great going over the big dykes to the nature reserves like Oostvaardersplassen and Lauwersmeer. I think it makes for more of a holiday if you travel about. Go to Friesland, end of....
Duinrell makes me shudder...

Have a look at beekes Bergen we had a fantastic time there last year with loads to do for the kids including the pool, beach, lake activities and the safari park plus the play park. We did a lot of cycling around the site and it certainly kept our 11, 8 and 6 year olds active and entertained for a week.

Go to whichever towns, gardens, galleries, museums, national parks, historic harbours, breweries, restaurants that you want to see, and stay at whichever campsites are closest and convenient. The further you get from the crowded southern corner the better it gets. But be sure to take your girls to Ann Frank's house and tell them the story.

Duinrell is perfect if you like drinking, loudly, outside your van in large groups. Or like going to lots of organised entertainment. I can't comment on low season, we've been twice, at Easter, and both times it's been pretty horrid on occasion. The area is lovely and we adore Holland. Go, just maybe not to Duinrell.

Low season is worse, according to their own security staff, as schools are allowed to bring large groups. I have a 40% off voucher for this year because of the problems I had last June (see my review). I would never go back. This wasn't our first visit but was by far the worst.

Yes, we stayed at Delftse Hout for 12 nights last June. Nice site and within walking (or cycling) distance of the town centre and a lovely lake next to the site with swimming beach, boating and fishing (With licence available from the site). We spent six weeks touring Holland and, apart from Duinrell, all the sites we stayed at were great.

That's great we are looking forward to it this year and taking the bikes, so hope to park the car and not use it for two weeks.

You can also get a bus outside the site to the railway station in Delft. So, if you don't want to take the car, it is easy to visit places of interest in the area. Our neighbours last year had a day out in Amsterdam by bus and train. I can thoroughly recommend a trip to Scheveningen beach.
