Hi!
I am wondering if anyone can help recommend a campsite in the loire which will be good and entertaining for our 11 and 8 year old and also suitable for our (will be) 1 year old wirehaired pointer dog. He needs lots of exercise.
We would also like to cycle to villages/along river.....
Nice quiet and relaxing holiday if possible!!
Any ideas at all?
Many thanks
Emma.

Not sure if they take dogs, they have one themselves, but have a look at Le Chant d'Oiseau, reviews on here, north of Saumur, very child friendly. Our all time favourite site.

That's the Dordogne, not the Loire - another 200 miles south.
EDIT: ah, sorry, ignore me - got confused with Sarlat in the Dordogne [:oops]
We've just booked at Chateau Canteloup just north of Le Mans. Not quite the Loire but accessible from Calais without needing an overnight stop. Not been before but excellent reviews - couldn't find one in the Loire itself that didn't have some negative reviews....

Lanes round site have very little traffic.walks through woodland. Best thing would be to e mail Stu and Syb for info. Small Town of Mouliherne about 2 to 3 miles, Vernantes about the same but bigger. Lovely meals cooked by Stu and Syb during the week , great place to unwind with glass of wine while watching children play safely in centre of site. Can't wait to get back there!
The FourWoodys - unfortunately Le Chant d'Oiseau don't take dogs. Here's an extract from their website:
Here at Le Chant d'Oiseau we don't promise anything but a place to relax, unwind and cast ... We regret that NO pets are allowed on site except guide dogs.
Look up Les Saules campsite. Great walking area for dog plenty of games area for children. Owner (Lauren) speaks good English and is really helpful, good and safe cycling routes, near to Loire chateau and all in all a great campsite. Worth a look.

Hi Emma,
we can recommend Le Moulin Fort, Chenonceaux. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=8144
We stayed here for a week last summer with friends, we had a riverside pitch. Facilites really good, Short walk along the river to Chenonceaux and the Chateau, small swimming pool which the children enjoyed.
