Hi We are off to Lake Garda in June and it is our longest trip, we have done Brittany and Vendee a few times before. Any suggested routes or ideas as to how long it would take, we plan to break the trip up over a few days. Thanks

Hi and welcome to UKCS.

There are lots of threads on Garda, but they're mainly in the sections "Camping & Caravanning abroad". I've done a search in that section, just inputting Garda, and it found 80 threads!! Have a look HERE

Plenty to pick from, happy reading!!

I do not wish to put you off at all, I'm italian and have done the italian lakes I think abour 5 times since 1974 and in my opinion Garda must be the most expensive of them all, campsites are rather expensive no matter what time of year you visit.

As a point of interest... I just read that a new campers top has opened at peschiera.. Supposed to be quite good (compared to the old one)

We did it with two night halts. Dunkerque to Montmedy(Municipal Reviewed), Montmedy to Illertissen( Campingplatz Illertissen Reviewed). Then using Fern and Brenner passes to Garda. Three full days driving, but boy was it worth it. We stayed at Baia Verde at Manerba del Garda. Great site set back from lake, but easy short walk.

Have a look at the ACSI Card website:  www.campingcard.co.uk for several sites around Lake Garda at 16 euros per night, including pitch, car and caravan, two people, awning, and electricity.   Acceptance dates are given and some sites accept the card up to the 5th July.

We stayed at Camping Nanzel at Limone (north end of the lake) ... less crowded than the southern end, about ten years ago. Pleasant enough, if I remember accurately, and certainly seemed more relaxing than the hurly burly of the larger camp sites around the southern, flatter, southern end of the lake.

We went from Macon via Lyon, Frejus Tunnel and Milan in the day. (As it happened, the only wet day of the holiday so it was heavy cloud all the way and poor visibility).

In the past we have had hotel holidays at Lake Garda, and prefer the area around Garda town. There are a number of campsites on the lakeside between Garda and Bardolino, some give ACSI discount, but it was quite fraught getting a pitch, we ended up moving pitches a couple of times, but for E16 per night were happy to do so. We stayed at camping Serenella, see my review on here.

Thanks everyone for suggestions, we are on a rally so campsite is sorted (Camping Cappucinni) and like to idea of going through France then across, we plan on 3 days so should be OK for a relaxing drive. Looks like we have to buy a Vingnette for Switzerland though.
