We are thinking of going to the Arras memorial as my wife's great uncle is mentioned or buried there, can anybody recommend a suitable site for 1/2 nights and can you park daytime at the memorial?

Forgot to mention that you can tour the tunnels beneath the town hall where 24,000 troops hid during WW1. Its right underneath the town centre

Its 50 years since I visited the graves at Arras, with my Grandmother to see the grave of her first husband. Back then yes you could park, pretty much anywhere. Probably somewhat different now :)

I remember the very long walk (well for a 6 year old) through all the rows of graves, a memory that stays vividly with me to this day. My grandmothers first husband was blown up at Arras attempting to rescue injured colleagues, and her second husband died when my mother was 3 as a result of being gassed during the great war.

We were camping so there obviously was a reasonable site in the area but I have no memory of it, and it is far too long ago to be of use.

So, sorry I have nothing recent enough to be useful to add but hopefully someone else will have.

Thanks everybody.
I read a recent review in MMM magazine where someone had stayed at the Aire and it was not very nice. There were what appeared to be many travellers which had taken over the car park adjacent to the Aire, the water and electricity had been cut of and they were quite aggressive to motor homers. What a great shame

Twice we have visted the car park next door has been locked up as its used as an overflow carpark for some sort of festival. The Electric bollard in the aire hasn't worked for the last two years !!

If you do visit Arras a trip to Vimy to see the Canadian memorial is a 'must do'
