Don't miss the 8.00 pm nightly ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres. Very moving, and taken very seriously by all who attend. It can get very crowded so get a place early. We were actually under the gate, opposite the speaker's box.
Ypres is a lovely town in itself, so I would probably base myself at Jeugstadtion, mentioned by TethersEnd, above, which is on the southern outskirts of the town, and is an easy trip to Tyne Cot and the other cemeteries.
We stayed at Chateau du Gandspette when we hosted a New to France tour for the Caravan Club, and went out to Ypres from there. This year the Caravan Club Flanders Field tour is based there - and our friends are hosting the tour. You can use Camping Cheques at Chateau du Gandspette - and there are plenty of smaller cemeteries around there, including one in the village itself, which is tiny but equally moving. Otherwise there are lots of other cemeteries and visitor centre at Albert, a bit further south in Picardy.
