We no longer have our tourer, so we're looking at going to this park next Summer in a Duingalow or with one of the tour operators.

Does anyone have any advice on:

Which tour op is best (ie - who has the nicest, most modern homes!) Or should we book direct with the park for a Duingalow?

and

When is the best time to book? Are there early-bird offers etc that maybe give extra discounts?

Thanks all!

We've only used Eurocamp there and the vans were of the usual high standard we always get with Eurocamp, however owing to the sort of site it is, all the Eurocamp couriers were very young, and we found the level of service from them and the cleanliness of the vans left much to be desired. We had to scrub ours when we got into it as it was filthy.

We have been to Duinrell at least 8 times and used all the different companies over the years , all ok. So far we have never stayed in a Duingalow although we have had a look and they are good. Our last visit was Easter 2014 £318 with Canvas in a 3 bed good quality mobile 3 beds and dishwasher . If you are booking with uk operator I think earlier you book the better. I have never been high season as I was worried about how busy it would be so we stick to Easter and October . There is loads to do ( that's why we have been so many times), Delt, Amsterdam, Rotterdam Zoo , Keukenhof( if you go in spring), or just stay on site do the rides, hire a go kart for the kids, relax, there's even a Domino's takeaway in wassenaar if you need it.

The Dutch half term hols are different weeks from UK & summer hols start & end earlier generally so should be quieter last 3wks of August.

I don't know if UK operators charge extra for UK school hol periods at Dutch sites. If so it might be better to book direct.

Yes they do.

However if you go outside Dutch school holidays, they use the site for large school parties. A number of people on here have had awful experiences being stuck in the midst of large parties of Dutch teenagers.

To be honest, we have been twice and have not been impressed either time, it's a loud, noisy site that attracts a loud, noisy clientele of all nationalities. There is a lot to do in the area and onsite and if you like drinking, partying and going to loud, noisy organised entertainment, and holiday in large groups, then I'm sure you will love it. It obviously appeals to many people or it wouldn't keep going!

To add, if you want to go peak UK season, then you'll pay peak prices with UK operators. Maybe consider the Duingalows. I don't think they are particularly cheap, and special offers are last to be of the "last minute" variety -and you then run the risk of missing out.

To further add, I know I sound snotty about it, we've been twice as I said. The first time we were in the middle of a large party of Brits who sat outside their vans getting hammered until gone midnight, every night. The second time we went because the kids were keen for the pool, and exactly the same thing happened. They seem to encourage large party bookings (or maybe are one of the only sites that doesn't *discourage* them) and woe betide you end up near one.

Have to agree with Amanda. We had a horrendous week there at the end of June 2013. It was so bad that they have offered us 40% discount for this year. We had used this site many times in the 1990s in our own tent, ready erected tents and Duingalows (and yes, the Duingalows are great - as long as you don't get a stag/hen party next door! We would never go back.

Just to balance the picture after the last two posts as I said we have been at least 8 times in the last 1o years the last time 3 weeks ago when as well as quite a few Brits there were loads of Dutch and German holidaymakers, maybe we have been lucky as we have never experienced any problems and we do not like drinking, partying and going to loud , noisy entertainment and we do not travel in a large group.

Oh, absolutely. I'm sure that if everyone had a hideous time it'd soon close, and I can't believe that it caters exclusively to the "get drunk and make loads of noise" brigade, and maybe we were just unfortunate both times we went, however I do feel that as a site, it's more likely to attract that "type" than a smaller site somewhere further away from a port.

We really like Koningshof, which is a smaller Eurocamp site not far from Duinrell.

We went there some years back in our old tourer and stayed on the naturists part. In August after they had finished there. It was very quiet and peaceful but the static part of the site did look busier and that is what a lot of people like.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and am quite sure that many people have had great holidays there. We first went in 1995 and then yearly for 6 years and all was fine. Last year our problem was not with drunken Brits but drunken Germans who lit a brazier every night between our trailer tent and their tent. When they left, a party of around 50 German schoolchildren moved in. The noise started about 6.30 each evening and continued until we called Security at least twice each night. The following week might have been really quiet but, having paid £250 for a week, I would not risk the same thing happening again when there are so many lovely sites in Holland.

If you book early direct with Duinrell more often than not you can get free Tikibad swimming, otherwise its E3.50 per person for 2 hours if you book with a tour operator. If you're keen swimmers it something to bear in mind, there is an outdoor pool which is free but only open in high summer ie August!
