Hi All

Right me and the hubby have just purchased a Campervan that we pick up end of next week. We have two long weekends planned in July and August to Northern France to test the van out and if all goes well we are looking to go down to Provence early September. Places I have read about and look appealing are Cassis, Saint-Remy, Apt. We have previously spent a lot of time in Nice and want to get into the country side. I am a massive Peter Mayle fan and I have this romantic idea to see these pretty tree lined squares with wine glasses chinking!

We are looking to spend approx 2 weeks away, we don't know what route, where to stay on the way, how long to take.

We went to Camping Esterel past Cannes about 7 years ago now in our Caravan and I have to say the holiday was a bit of a disaster. We didn't anticipate how tired we would get and also the sites we used just weren't us. I think we were very naïve and didn't plan correctly. Ive been going to France every year but not in a caravan or Campervan.

I don't want to rough it, I want sites with a bar, restaurant and a pool is a must. The ideal would be local villages that we could walk into. And we don't mind a few different sites rather than basing ourselves at one site.

If anyone could be so kind as to throw out a few suggestions and I can start and make some sort of plan I would be really grateful.

Well done!We have had a camper van for many years and love it! I would just say 2 weeks isn't very long to get down to Provence and back with time to enjoy down there. We take 3+ weeks to enjoy ourselves travelling to the south of France and back making the trip part of the holiday and going slightly different ways but also revisiting favourite places. We enjoyed Les Pecheurs just outside Roquebrinne sur Argens , within walking distance of the village itself by a lake . it's reviewed on here. Near Frejus and beaches.

Welcome to the campervanning world :). We went to Provence as our first big trip in our 'van a couple of years ago. We made it as far as Lyon on the first days drive - there by dinnertime easily, visited the city before going the rest of the way. We stayed at Camping Indigo sites (Lyon, then Fourcalquier). Of the places you mention, we visited Apt, which was lovely :). We would normally move around, but we'd booked the site before we bought the 'van and didn't want to have to move the tent!

Thank-You Camping Princess. Since my post we have had to have a re-think. We have a pre-existing holiday booked with Siesta Holidays In September down to Port Grimaud staying in a mobile home/lodge. We are so excited about our campervan we were hoping to cancel and get the majority of the cost back but we cant so the "big" trip is now on hold until next year. Still very excited about Port Grimaud though, we went 3 years ago and absolutely loved it

We tend to avoid those sites that you like, but whilst thinking about it, jot down Macon, Vaison la Romaine, and Crest. There is a municipal site in Apt, we love it there, but the site has no pool or bar.
