The reason it is "worth it" to me is that we get off our ferry in Roscoff at 8am and just found out that reception closes on the camp site were booked into at 5pm.
So I either sleep in an Aire overnight whilst losing a night I've paid for or drive without breaks. I understand that for some it's not a problem to take several days but we did plan the journey carefully. We only found out about the change to reception times 2 weeks ago.
Our sat nav says it will take 8 hours plus stops and that's at 70mph. We have 9 hours for the trip. I wish we hadn't changed to a bigger car now. As I said in my opening post, until recently we had a slightly lighter car and this would have allowed us to travel at 65-70mph.

Regards

Simon

I am sure if you contact them they may allow late arrivals.
Travelling at 70mph for 8 hours towing a caravan doesn't sound a great idea to me?

Plus one incident on the route and your times will be stuffed so a plan B is required anyway

Finally please do take note of the many reduced speed sections usually on a long downhill section where towing vehicles should reduce often to 90kph or less

Enjoy your hols

I'm assuming your satnav/personal calculations are based on driving at speeds 'up to' 70 mph.
If you intend to average 70 mph, you'd have to drive significantly faster than that for most of the time.

We tend to allow an average of about 45mph (maybe 50mph if nearly all autorute) when working out French journey times towing, to allow for occasional breaks and assuming using the autoroutes at around 60mph where possible

Hi Simon assume you are referring to Bois Soleil re journey time. Spoke to Corrine in reception this pm and reception closes at 7-00pm at weekends. if you're late after that go direct to your pitch which I think is no 41 - Morgat. she'll put up a pitch reserved sign so no on else picks it after reception is closed.
Don't bust a gut getting here though - have a safe journey

Hi Chris, really appreciate that. We're on the Thursday night ferry and will be driving down on Friday. 1st year with the new Mondeo and must admit that I hadn't considered the fact I was now over 3500kg until last week.
Looking forward to a relaxing and steady drive now the pressure is off and we'll be providing Friday nights pitching and awning entertainment for everyone's amusement.
See you at the weekend and thanks again.

Simon

Not sure what the implications are of being over 3,500 kg GTW. we've changed our car to a Mondeo mk4 and must be over this. I would normally look to be travelling at 60 mph on Motorways otherwise HGV's travelling at 56 mph are overtaking you all the time

Over 3500kg gross train weight you're limited to 56mph (see earlier posts). I'll be setting the cruise at 60 and we'll see how we go
