I know this question has been answered many times, but I have been searching through and just cannot find the thread that I'd looked at before on this.

We would like suggestions for a stopover campsite about 5 hours from Calais, preferably not far off the Autoroute. Please help.

On that route we use campsites at Troyes, Langres, Beaune, Macon, depending on how far we want to drive. Sometimes use different ones going down and up.

We used Croix d'Arles at Langres this time , though there's a nice municipal at Auxerre, next to the football stadium.Link   (Reviews to follow.)

The classic stop-off is Bourges at 5h30 driving time via Rouen, but better for the A75 - a pretty route. Camping de L'Arquebuse just off the A39 at Auxonne might fit the bill too.

Beaune is about 5 hours from Calais, not allowing for breaks. We have used Camping Les Bouleaux as it not far from the autoroute.

We have used various depending on how far you want to go. We used Val de Vestle just south of Rhiems last year but have used Troyes, Laon, and others. All good. and close to auto route. Another lovely site but very small is at Arc en Barrois between Troyes and Langres (In caravan europe) Small but perfectly formed municipal by a water mill on edge of village. Warden calls in evening but last September didnt appear so had free night on our own! quite safe.

We too have often used this site. Good facilities and used extensively by overnighters.

We are heading in this direction.

Our stop over is Savigny-Les-Beaune ' Les Premier Pres', we have camped here 10 years on the trot....lovely spot, just off the motorway heading South, at the turn off to the village is a HUGE ELeclerc with fuel, and thesre is sports shop...Decathlon is in Dijon (unfortunately).

Hope this helps, have a nice trip.

We're heading for Gordes and will be exploring the Luberon and beyond 17

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think we've booked at Les Premier Pres. I've had an e-mail back to say it's booked but after asking in 2 successive e-mails how to pay a deposit for it they have not told us.
BobCat, do you usually pay a deposit? I'm beginning to think we don't need to.

We have never paid a deposit, so you will be OK.

Caravans make up 70% of the people camping, then the motor homes and the 'hobo's like us who are in tents 'sans electricite'.

There is a a lovely bakery in the village and a small 'Casino' type shop. If you go right outside the campsite then left along the track this path takes you into the village alongside the stream and the allotments...you come into the vilage near the padock with the 'chickens' who will come to you 17.

The village has a small pizza place/ bar overlooking the square with a lovely fountain.

Once you've been you WILL go back, it is a such a lovely surorise and so out of the way.

Enjoy
