Having looked at several route planners I am guided to Paris and then south. Has anyone taken this route or is the route via Rouen a better bet if the bridge opens by the end of July ?

It's horses for courses, depending on where you are going. I tend to vary between the Rouen route or Paris route depending on how I'm feeling. That way I avoid the ground hog day / déjà vu feeling.

Easy to get across Paris, after you pass under Charles DeGaulle airport you will see a sign 'A10 Bordeaux'. Keep following these signs until you get to A10 which takes you towards Dordogne or south west coast. Otherwise go via Rouen, even with bridge closed its still easy, go off where bridge is closed & you soon see signs for Everuex.
HAve a look atBison Futé.
If you are going round Paris and heading south on a Friday late afternoon/evening or a Saturday late July early August - personally I would give it a miss.
la Francilienne is the way to go you can cut across the back of Ch de G by coming off the motorway at Senlis then go to Meaux and cross country if you stay on the Francilienne then the difficult part due to volume of traffic is the A4 link apart from that bingo

la Francilienne is the way to go...
Only if you come south on the A1. If you use the, in my experience, quieter, less heavy vehicles, A16 then the western circuit using the A86 and the duplex tunnel is ideal especially if you are heading for the A10 south.
