We're going to holland in August with the folding camper and was after some site recommendations in the north?
We have kids (8/11) so would ideally like something between the mini camping and the duinrell equivalent! (I.e. Something for them to do like swimming or bombing around the woods, but not so much that you feel like you're staying at Blackpool or Alton towers!)
Had a good look on the web but it all gets a bit overwhelming...

Sorry, I've only stayed at Duinrell so no advice to give but hope you get sorted and have a great time!! Please let us know how you get on, I would like to camp in Holland again and have children of 13, 11 and 3.

I seem to remember (from 13 years ago!) a site at Harlingen having a few boats etc.

It's in Friesland just across the (rather impressive) Afsliutdijke, but you'll need to do a bit of research to find current details, as I can't find it listed on UKCS.

Bergumermeer (also over the Aflsuitdijke) is nice. Worth having a look at Ardoer & Oostappen group parks.

Take a look at Camping de Wildhoeve at Emst in the east of The Netherlands. Plenty for the kids to do, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, play areas,sports field, Bicycle track, in the forest and plenty of organised nature activities for children and adults. Excellent W.C, Showers etc.

I live 30 minutes away and we have put our caravan here for April-June for the last 5 years - would highly recommend it!

Cant find it listed on the UK Campsites list but its easy enough to google it

Have a look at the nature campsites
http://www.natuurkampeerterreinen.nl/

They are more woods than swimming pools but many have loads to do for the children and a great atmosphere. We stayed at Schoonenberg, just outside Haarlem (which is an excellent base) http://www.campingschoonenberg.nl/
and Bergvlietse Bossen http://www.bergvlietse-bossen.nl/ which had more facilities but may be a bit too far south.

Hi Nederlander, just found your post as we are looking to make a change from france. Can you advise if you can cycle directly off the site ie to nearby villages ?. Also do there tend to be masses of Brits on Dutch sites ? Thanks

It depends where and when you go. If it's in the Eurocamp book, there'll be plenty of Brits. We've been to three sites independently, and was on a 'British Section' in one place (3 of us), but for the rest we've been the only ones.

Hi king Family:

On camping de Wildhoeve I suspect you will come across few if any Brits you will find mainly Dutch. English is spoken by all staff at the site so don't worry about that.

Cycling is good directly off the site, nearest village is less than 2 miles and plenty more villages within the 2-10 miles, cycle paths and/or country lanes. Plenty of routes though woods/forestry.

Hi , Koningshof is a nice site with enough to keep the kids happy but still maintaining a lovely atmosphere,my boys are 13 and 11 and loved it last year

We never found any brits much north of Delft. I think its all about touring around and seeing as much of the country as possible. Plenty of campsites all over.
