Has anyone recently been to this campsite? I'm interested in heading there this summer but as I've left it late a lot of other decent sites seem to be fully booked.

If so, I'm interested to know how far away the beach is, is it walkable? Also, how long will it take to get into the centre of town and are there any decent restaurants close by?

What is the evening entertainment like? Is it all in French? Is it very noisy if you want an early night?

I notice that the shower and WC facilities are unisex. Is this the case and does this cover all of the washrooms? My wife is not a big fan so just want to make sure. Even if mixed, are they kept fairly clean?

Thanks in advance for your help.

TFR.

We have stayed a mile or so further up that road nearer Notre Dame De Monts and first thing I would say is if under canvas, ensure you get a pitch away from the D36 main road (Rue de Notre Dames), as can be a bit noisy at night. The road behind the site (Chemin de Rives) is a quiet local road and not a problem.

no idea about site facilities or on site noise but some sites certainly do have the louder entertainment some nights along that stretch but nothing too late at night

The beach will only be a 10 min max walk through the pine forest. lovely beaches and fantastic spot for sunset walk as sun will set on horizon

Getting into St Jean can be busy in main season but is only really 10 mins in car from there and Notre Dame De monts is much quieter (and nicer IMO) and certainly some nice family restaurants there although didn't notice any higher end places if that is what you mean.

Fantastic bakery on route into Notre Dame on left - you will spot it via the queue outside at all times and useful Super U in Notre Dame also to avoid heading into St Jean. Very popular market couple of times week next to the Super U also

Great cycling area as very flat

Thanks for the info on the area, that is very useful and much appreciated.

Restaurant wise I'm not seeking Marco Pierre White but just not the usual SJdM burgers & chips!! Decent Moules & Frites will be just the ticket!

In that case you will certainly be fine in both St Jean and Notre Dame De Monts ;)

A few nice touristy type places servicing decent enough Moules, pizzas etc down Avenue De LA MEr in St Jean (bit touristy but some nice enough bars etc down there.

Also on the road down towards beach in notre Dames de Monts there are a few restaurants that all served decent food when we tried them a couple of years ago

Great little fresh fish and seafood place near to where you are looking for buying freshly caught moules, fish etc. That is on the junction virtually of Chemin De Rives and Route De La Tonnelles. Little supermarche there as well from memory

I really like the area - not picturesque in same way much of France can be but lovely coastal area with forest and beaches all walkable

I have driven past the campsite, it is really near to the beach, however I couldnt get excited about the area, it is a bit tacky!

We stayed here a couple of years ago. Here is my review
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10922

It was very close to the lovely beach, and great cycling, but far too busy a site for my liking, and very expensive. I wouldn't go back.

hi we have stayed at les amiaux for the past 2 years but we were in a static caravan so cant really comment on the wash facilities but from what i saw they were kept very clean. Before we went here i read some bad reviews but i can honestly say i havent got a bad thing to say about it thats why weve been for the past 2 years and we will go back one day we just wanted a change this year.
The beach is about 15 mins walk away from the park but you can drive your car there as there is a big free car park right next to it.
We had a lovely lunch one day right on the front on the seafront of moules and frittes and it was lovely, i think the place is calles moules and ttheres about 12 different ways to have them and prices was very good. We went in the afternoon as everytime we passed at night people were queuing outside the door so that tells yoy how good it is.
There is plenty to do here but you can always find quiet places and weve been both times in july/august and the beach was never crowded.
Les amiaux has a curfew from 11-7 so no cars driving around and all the rime we were there we never heard any noise at night just people walking back to their tents/caravans. We will defo go back camping next time
