Can anyone who is familiar with the town of Carnac, tell me if there is a area/street with shops?
We were there last summer, but only at the marina.
It says on the Carac tourism website, that there is a night market, is it worth a visit?
Thanks.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I'm not familiar with Carnac, but if the advert was for a marche nocturne, in July and August, it often means an event where they provide tables and chairs, food vans and other bits, and often entertainment or dancing. You go along, with your own food and drink if you like, or buy off the stalls, sit, eat and enjoy!
I think there is a nice supermarket on the main road through Plougharnel, first time I went there a group of boys in wet suits were walking round it shopping, seemed like my kind of store. They even sold the propane/butane Camping Gaz that I use.
Camping Municiapal de Kerhillo is just behind the dunes, tents sit on sandy hillocks, while the cars drive in grooves between. A basic but happy site.
Thanks for the replies.
What about La Trinite Sur Met, does it have a shopping area?
Reason I am asking, have got teenagers who like the seaside type shops, with clothes etc. couldn't find anywhere like that when we were there last year. We stayed near Vannes.
Best way I can describe what I am looking for is similar to Jard Sur Mer, or La Tranche Sur Mer in the Vendee.
Carnac is great, there is a "high street" with some fashion stores, a few nic nak type things and then an area with some cafe bars and creperies. It is all very pleasant. Are you staying in Les Menhire? You can walk from the beach and do a circuit through the town. There is a great ice cream parlour and at night the usual chichi
We are staying in Camping Penboch again. My daughter met so many other teenagers there last year she can't wait to go back. The site is full of teenagers yet is so quiet at night as there is no organised entertainment, for them.
We also thought we had seen the last of our 18yr old but he has decided he is going as well.
I'm eyeing up

There's a street, which i seem to remember, was behind and maybe parallel to the beach. You need to go to the main beach in town and then have a wander behind it. My children found it by accident when we stayed in Carnac about 3 years ago.
There were a lot of shops and good variety of types from cheap to trendy to expensive, my son blew all his holiday money on some Nike trainers!
We stayed in Carnac last year and the town is lovely, as were the beaches, and cycling was good. Kids loved the huge icecream stall.
However it was very, very expensive, the weather was poor - cold wind meant we couldn't sit out, - lots of things we enjoy about france - vinyards, good fruit etc. absent.
Also the traffic was horrendous - we are heading to the Ardeche this year, far better weather, better value, and although its further to travel and least we wont be sitting for hours at the peages ! Took us over 10 hours to get back to Calais from Carnac - about the same time it'll get to get down to the Ardeche.
I know lots of people love Brittany but it wasn't for us.
Katie's. Just a little word on the Ardeche. We went last summer, it was not that brilliant weather wise. The most amazing thunderstorm on our last night there.
It wasn't good anywhere I know last year, but it may not be all you think, that's all.

I know last year in August the weather was poor all over France - none of my friends had particular good weather. But having travelled a lot in France and spent many a wet holidays as a kid in Brittany, I know for sunshine the further south the better. Also shocked at the prices of stuff compared to other parts of France though this may have just been Carnac and didn't find fruit and veg up to much - markets were disappointing.
