We are going south of Barcelona next year so should be interesting to see what we require...
If your south of Valencia and north of Villajoyosa there is a hotspot even after the changes to the Astra satellite foot print .
We were in Benidorm and using an 85cm dish could still get bbc1 and itv1 as well as all sky channels although if it rained we did get some picture breakup on certain channels but during good weather it was fine
That's interesting info Neil and Lena and it further proves what a waste of effort it has been for them to introduce this new tighter UK Spot Beam.
What they should have done is Soft encrypted the FTA channels, like what they used to do in the good old analogue days, before Spot Beam capability was around.
The powers that be, were quite happy for folk to watch BBC/iTV on a 45cm Dish almost anywhere in Southern Europe, you did not even need a viewing card, just simply a satellite box that had embedded VideoGuard Decoder, so either a Sky box or none Sky box would do the job, and that situation existed for well over 10 years from the early 80's through to the mid 90's.
Just for info, I measured the Elevation for Astra2 at Frejus as 35.6 Degrees, the published Elevation says 35.3 Degrees, but I won't argue over 0.3 off a Degree.
This is a handy figure to know for the area, as the Elevation for Manchester is 22.4 Degrees, so quite a big difference.

Dont panic Captain Mainwaring..............we have freesat in Genoa....well near Sassello actually in the hills. My effing compass is 5 degrees out. I played around with the dish, got some turkish stations, googled em and found their sat, the mag and elevation and then adjusted the sat dish accordingly and wham bam thankyou Maam freesat and a strong signal too boot.
Yep Chelseafc.
I think we have both been very lucky to get all Freesat so far South, especially down on the French Eastern Med.
I guess the 1m Dish is as small as you would dare go, and I can understand why they are fitting 1.3m Dish's along the Cote d Azur for ex-pats.
Although personally I think 1.2m would be as big as you would ever need to go, even with allowing for bad weather and satellite yawl.
We will continue to holiday in the South East of France during July for many years to come, and we can now say that the current satellite reception with a 1m Dish will remain the same for at least the next 15 years.
After that who knows what we will be using to receive our UK TV and Radio whilst on holiday in Southern Europe.
