Hi all,

We are currently planning on towing our caravan to Lake Garda in August 2015 for 2 weeks. We have 2 children, 11 & 9 years old.

We are thinking of Piano di Clodia camping site. There are a few with Eurocamp independent & Select Sites but this one took our fancy.

Has anyone been there recently or could recommend a great site on the lake with a pool, slides etc.

Many thanks

Hi,
Have not been to that campsite,
We stayed at Bella Italia...2010..
If i was going back id go to Lazise,
it was by far the best town/village in the area...

We find San Francesco at Desenzano very good. Look at this on the European campsite list here on UK Campsite.

We stayed at Delle Rose - http://www.campingparkdellerose.it/ near Lazise about 5 years ago. I think de Clodia was next door. I'd recommend the site - kids loved the nightime open air disco and our 11 year old at the time took part in football trainig/competitions. Site has its own beach directly onto the lake. Pool complex was good. Well positioned for travelling around the lake

Not been there but we have used Cisano and La Rocca sites. I would agree that Lazise is one of the nicer towns and has good ferry connections.

1 stop is pushing it. We went from Calais down to Reims, East to Saont Avoid then towards the Swiss border making an overnight stop around Mulhouse. Next day we moved on to Interlaken and stayed a few days before taking the Gptthard tunnel, onto Milan and then Garda

We did a similar trip in 2006 with one stopover south of Reims (I forget where), then straight through the Mont Blanc tunnel and past Milan, stayed at Bella Italia on Lake Garda.

A one night stopover is do-able, we arrived in the dark though, but it was only May, and had we not run into the most horrendous traffic near Milan it would have been earlier.

Jane.

One stop as said might be pushing it - depends on your arrival in France and what your preferred route is and whether you want to pay to get through Switzerland.
You might just get as far as Mulhouse for an overnight (very long day) and then on to Garda.
If you want to avoid tolls I wouldn't fancy your chances.

We're planning a similar drive in a few weeks :). Calais to Colmar in the Alsace in one day (we have a VERY early crossing due to leaving the booking a little late!), we did Calais to Titisee in the Black Forest in one day easily last year (we have a campervan though rather than towing so might have been going a little faster).

Next day we're going through Switzerland (decided to swallow paying for the vignette for the convenience and because we're going back that way too) to Como. Reckoning on 5 hour drive - may well be quite a drive on to Garda.

If you remind me mid-august I'll let you know how we got on!

We have just got back from our 5 week trip which started with a last minute decision to go to Lake Garda. I read lots on here regarding routes. We chose to take it easy and have 3 nights to get there and go through Germany. Three nights was great but I would never go through Germany again! Autoroute all the way to our first night at the fantastic Municipal at Haguenau near Strasbourg.   The trouble started when we got near Stuttgart. Miles and I mean miles of slow/stopped traffic. In all the years travelling in France we have never experienced bung ups like these! Brenner Pass was slow, presumably cos of the tolls booths and I did expect that. There is a suggestion next year of going to Lake Como. Will bite the bullet and buy the Swiss vignette, even if they put it up to €100 just to avoid German autobahns.

!!! Having got that off my chest we loved Lake Garda!! We stayed at a super site called Camping San Giorgio at Manerba Del Garda. Brilliant.
