Hi guys
I have asked a similar question before but I can't seem to find the responses that I was given. My wife and I are driving down to Agde from Calais with our three boys. I have scheduled three stopovers down to Agde and then three stopovers on our way back to Calais to make the journey bearable for our children. The plan is drive 3-4 hours and then stopover. Can anyone recommend a route to agde and if so, nice places to stop? We usually book cheap and cheerful Premiere Classe rooms on the way there and back. I've had a look on via Michelin but it would be great to hear from members on here. We will be staying at Mer Et Soleil.
Thanks
Scott

We did this journey last year, we found two stop overs more than comfortable and we have three children 15 13 9.
We arrived at Calais around 4pm on the first day and drove to Cambrai, personally i would go a little further and stop at Saint Quientin. we then on the second day stopped for a lovely swim at Lac D'orient, lovely and warm then continued on to Tournus. We loved Tournus what a great place and stayed in a really cute hotel called Hotel Saint Phillibert which offered us two rooms on teh ground floor that were interconnecting. Lovely town with some really nice eateries. We then drove down through Lyon and down to the coast.
Anyone planning to use the route which takes you near to Rouen should read the posts about the pont Mathilde bridge. There are delays in Rouen due to roadworks in the tunnel and friends reported chaos there last week. That route is the A28 to Rouen, then the N154 down to Chartres, then Orleans, Vierzon, Montlucon, and then Clermont Ferrand, to Beziers and then to Agde - but this will definitely be affected if the tunnel is closed southwards.

I shall be asking this same question later this year but going past Agde all the way to Malaga. Booked a nice attic flat with an uninterupted view of the seafront at Torre for e350 a month!
Hi RogerVanner. I've had a look at viamichelin and the route planner suggests taking the A1 towards Paris and then the A10 towards Orleans. I think it then follows the same route that you have mentioned above. Do I need to go an alternative route and if so, what would you suggest?
Thanks

Personally, and sorry for interrupting, but if you don't mind paying tolls then that would be the best route - so long as you keep to the outer Paris ring road rather than the peripherique.
The Rouen route is generally the preferred route for those who don't want to pay tolls - reads like RV is amongst that group!!

Thanks Val. That clears up my query! Sorry to sound stupid but how do I avoid the peripherique and stick to the outer ring road? I use a sat nav so just follow that! The last time we went via paris we ended up going through the centre!
Unfortunately we don't use a SatNav so I wouldn't know how to programme it to not just do the 'shortest' route, which would take you (I imagine) via central Paris! That must have been some experience!
Have a look at Google maps, and follow the route of the E104 on the map. Keep an eye on a map on your journey, and when you get to the Charles de Gaulle airport turn off at the next junction, and take the E104 (Francilienne) which takes you a bit back on yourself, and around outer Paris - keep following the direction 'Bordeaux' and you'll keep on the right road. Eventually it joins up with the N10 and from there you can head to Orleans.
