Inspiration and advice needed - we have kept delaying booking for August and now the site we want looks full (waiting for email response).

Suggestions needed for family friendly (but not too commerical) campsite in the Vendee for August.  Pools a must along with play area for kids (9 & 5) and fairly easy access to beach.  We wanted Pin Parasol and have been there before to give an idea of type of facitilies we would want!

Thanks

Can't speak to PP but write up here on Domaine des Forges, at the time a Castels site.

Worked well for us but we'd no young 'uns to cater for.

Highly recommend Camping Ocean Dor in the Vendee. Direct beach access, great pools with slides and a decent playpark. Small town within walking distance. Lots of sight seeing nearby, great beaches, days out etc
I have searched for two weeks for August for you and they have availability.

Another vote for Oceano d'or. We are going in August for the second time. We have had a look at most of the beach sites in the area and I think this is the best for our requirements which are similar to yours. Our children will be 7 and 5 when we next go. The pitch sizes are generous. Pool is good with two slides. There is some children entertainment (in english) some evenings, and a large sandy playground. There is also a kids club on some days. We cycled to the beach. Its a bit of a walk (but plenty of people do), but also free parking so there are plenty of options. The beach has exposed rock pools at low tide, and is sandy at the top, and at low tide. Our children loved pottering around there. there are other beaches a short drive which are sandier, but we didn't visit them last time. We go for the last 2 weeks in august when its a bit quieter. The other site I like is Les Ecureuils in St-Hilaire-de-Riez (not the one in Jard sur Mer) but they are booked up for August. Going there again next year :)

Hi,

we've booked here for this summer. Not far from Pin Parasol so you'll know how close to the beach it is ....

Alli, we've been there for the past three years and loved it every time. Very spacious pitches, easy access to supermarkets, friendly staff. Prices for the holiday were very good, bar is popular and well priced. The shop is a little bit more than the supermarkets but you expect that.

We would recommend it to anyone, so long as they didn't expect the beach to be on their doorstep. We found that by being slightly inland, it gave us a better choice and variety of beach though.

What about Les Charmes in Apremont? There is a review on here, but I can't do the link cut & paste on a Kindle! Also, Camping La Domaine de Bellevue in St Christophe du Ligneron. I put the review on for that one! It is a lovely site about 1/2 hour from the coast. It is outside St Christophe & you will need a car to get into the town.

There were a fair few pitches empty at PP last year in the last couple of weeks in Aug as all the French schools had gone back. Ferries are cheaper as well!

We re-booked for this year in August last year and there were only THREE pitches left!

We had Pin Parasol, La Guyonierre and La Garangeoire (all within a couple of miles of each other) on our shortlist for this year. We ended up choosing La Garangeoire, which we just returned from on Saturday. We loved it! So much so, that we've put our names down for next year - something that we've never even thought about doing before. Great activities for all ages (many free of charge), sanitary blocks were plentiful and spotless, very reasonably priced bars and restaurant, huge playground with full grass soccer pitch behind it, lake, woods, equestrian centre.
We drove into Pin Parasol one night but only saw the pool and bar area which looked good. My husband cycled in and around it another day and felt that the pitches looked smaller than at La Garangeoire and that the hedging wasn't as tall and private. We never got to have a look at La Guyonniere.

I'll try to attach a copy of the activities for our last week there:

Back from La Guyonniere and cannot recommend it highly enough. We had a massive pitch and were really impressed with the facilities and how well maintained the site was.
We went for a walk round PP one evening and in comparison it felt really cramped and commercial. PP was great for when the kids were really small but La Guyonniere better suited our needs now.
