We did Martel in the Lot in June 2014. We used the route (in reverse) from Calais to Abbeville, Rouen, Chartres, Orleans, Vierzon, Limoges, then down to Brive Le Gaillard, and then on the D920/820 to Martel. Very straightforward, no problems towing anywhere, and a nice route onwards from there to wherever you might be heading.
Total Mileage - 813 kilometres, using some toll sections, slightly less at 799 km if you use entirely non-toll, which we did, but takes approximately an hour longer.
