ON a recent trip to La Belle France we stopped one night on a camping aire (as in the guide - not at the side of the Autoroute) and it was so remote that the non English speaking nasty people could have gassed us, tied us up, nicked everything, and no one would have been around to help us for hours. At least we would have had a good sleep.

Decided from then on it was probably a little more sensible to take the precaution of stopping the night at a 'campsite'. Amazing invention.

I must confess to gassing the inhabitants of my tent, namely my family.
It was after cooking up a very tasty chilli.
However, none of the people were rendered comatose. They were however gasping for breath as were the pitches either side and opposite,
I did try to turn myself in at the local Gendarmerie but they just shrugged and muttered something about Petomane

I'm with you on that one. Campsite or Baie de Somme for me!

A guy at a campsite we stayed at near Cartegena WAS held up and robbed in northern Spain 4 weeks ago. Money/passports taken and he was beaten up a bit too.

Not a daily wail story but from his neighbour.

Road bandits especially in northern Spain are well documented and not a theoretical story though
