we are thinking about taking our new tent to france in june, we want to go from dover to calais as is a much cheaper crossing ,
however as we have never been before we are reluctant to drive very far and really are looking for 1.5 hours drive tops (as will prob turn in to 4 hours when we get lost)
does any one have any suggestions for a decent camsite for boand girl aged 5 and two wine loving parents , we would like a pool
thanks

Don't just think about it, DO IT! France is a wonderful country, full of great attractions, not least the wine! You won't have to travel far from calais to find a perfect retreat, maybe down to the Champagne region? or cross a bit further over towards Normandy?
Sorry-spell that right- Berck-s-Mer if you look on a Northern France map you will see names like Fort-Mahon-Plage, Quend-Plage, Cayeux-s-Mer etc all nice seaside places-all very child friendly-more so than UK--if you put these place names into Google you will come up with camping info--
Have to agree wiith Floydfan - don't think to much about it and just go for it. The driving is easy with very good roads. Loads of great things to do and simply wonderful pace of life with great food and wine.
On our first trip we took a slightly different view about how far to travel. I didn't want to cross the channel and experience the temperatures similar to the UK. We went to the Lot Valley - some 500 miles south from Calais and the weather didn't disappoint.
Our only regret - we hadn't visted France earlier, especially when the kids were younger. I am sure wherever you go, you will have a lovely time come rain or more likely shine.
Enjoy
