As Mike says, unfortunately the French aren't 'standardised' nor likely to be - and that's what's so charming.  Sites will never be 'regular' and predictable.  What you see when you arrive is what you get, whatever it might be called.

In France almost all pitches have electricity, except those in the high mountains intended only for backpackers. 

On a French site (any site, pick one from 11,000) you'll need a French adaptor (just in case the connection to the bollard is an old-fashioned type), a Euro Plug for all other electrical connections and something for your water (could be anything from a kettle to fill from the tap, to a couple of aquarolls and connectors if you shower in the van).  We just have a 5 litre water container which we fill and use in the van - as do many Europeans, but most British have at least an aquaroll.  If you want drainage, and a hosepipe, then take those with you and on some sites you'll find the facilities to use them, on many you won't.
