Hello,me and the family are hitting the vendee at the end of August.after reading on here what others have done we are going to stop midway at beumont sur sarthe, what I'd like to know is do you have to book municipal sites or just turn up.
Cheers

I would think that at the end of August you will be okay as it is a fairly large site. I have emailed them in the past and they have booked a pitch so it is an option.
We've used them in the past in July and August without booking. Its a big site and I've not seen it full. Crowded but not full.
The last time we were there we took a pitch by the river and during the evening the may flies hatched and there were thousands of them round the lights. It was an amazing sight!

I thought about going there on the way home this year, and would have arrived about mid day. I was the told that they didn't accept receptions until 4pm so we went a different way.

I think you might be right about arriving after 4pm. We've been 3 times and last time arrived about 4pm to a queue which went back several caravans. There is a barrier so you can't get in without reception being open on your initial arrival. I would advise emailing them as last time we went in August I'm almost certain it was full. One word of advice check you can reach the electric point before you pitch as many pitches are too far away from the electric point for the cable to reach. We loved it there though
I have sent a e mail so I shall wait and see,our ferry gets to calais at 11 so I should get there by 4ish I hope, then set up camp and off for a stroll.

We have arrived at Beaumont around 2pm on a number of occasions and the reception has always been open.

Yes, we've arrived well before 4pm before now and didn't have a problem getting in either.
