Yes, we got stung like that, we came round Lac Leman, Montreux and up Trois Torrents to Chatel. the intenetion was to go and look at where my Grandmother lived in Bern. Yes crossing the border, armed guard and all, but she was gorgeous...the roads are so clean and smooth. Anyway Trois Torrent was horrendous, so we said 'sack that'. the road had fallen away on a corner and my goodness you culd see how it was underpinned. Having said that Chatel is Gorgeous, there is only one campsite but it is lovely. We went up on the ski lifts to Rocachon (above Morzine) and cycled or walked back down. I full suggest full suspension if you go up there though its a World Cup course. The walking is magnificent though. On that trip went from Chatel to la Clusaz, when you go on the main road and see MonT Blanc lit up pink with the evening sun it is quite special, it always brings to mind the line in the choral classic " the Hills are tipped Gold" (Hail Smiling Morn). All of France is speacil though
