Hi, Just looking for some advice, have toured Germany a number of times but only in April - June and Sept - Oct and now wondering what it would be like this time of year, my main questions are access to Campsites and Stelplatz do the Germans go on holiday in mass like the French ? and any other suggestions on problems if any that I may find, I don't normally book anything just like to turn up ?

German holidays stretch from beginning of July until middle of September. Germany has 16 Bundesländer (like counties) with different holiday times. For about two weeks this August every region in Germany will be on holiday.
As Germany is smaller than France but has more inhabitants there is a good chance for crowded roads (Autobahn) on Weekends during the whole holiday-period.
Wether you have to book a campsite or not will very much depend on where you're going. The seaside during a period of nice weather might be difficult, for example.
We were in Remagen Last weekend with brilliant weather and had no difficulties getting a pitch.
You should perhaps think of two or three campsites that might suit you and phone them the day before you arrive to ask if they have vacancies.
