Hi,this is rather specific and not strictly camping related but the collective knowledge of this sites members never fails to amaze me so here goes...
In September me and the wife are going to Cambrai for a week to look around the Somme and other WW1 sites,as it's reasonably close to Paris we thought we'd get a train in for the day, however trains from Cambrai, with a change at St Quentin work out about £90 for the 2 of us but if we drive to St Quentin it's around £40 soooo...my question is does anyone know if there is parking at St Q station for the day, can't seem to find the answer online and google maps and streetview don't reallly help
Cheers
p.s any other tips on French rail travel would be gratefully received, thankyou

Whilst we haven't used the rail station at St Quentin, using Google maps there seems to be parking to the north of the station, and across the river on Quai Gayant. However, if I were you I would email the Office du Tourisme in St Quentin and ask them the question. Usually these offices are very, very helpful!
You may also be able to buy the French equivalent of a Day Rover for Paris, and this may not add much to the cost of your fare if purchased at the same time.
I have just looked at the SNCF website, and even at a weekend that Cambrai/Paris trip is £70 for two. I can't believe how expensive that has become, French trains, even 6 years ago when I last used them, were very reasonably priced.
Just out of interest I looked at the SNCF site, and noticed their new 'OUIGO' TGV service from Marne la Vallee (Eurodisney) to the south. A return trip in September from there to Nimes for 2 adults, returning a week or two later is currently 40 euros, and children are an extra 5 euros. How's that for cheap rail travel.

I noticed last year when we spent the day in Reims, how expensive the trains were. I can't remember the exact figures but we looked at how much the (relatively) short TGV to Paris would be and felt it was ludicrous. The trains do look wonderful, but seem to be well out of the ordinary price range.
