Well, I'm a real fusspot and once we had figured out the French camspite calssification system we rarely go wrong. We avoid 4* as this means commercial, pool, noise. We go for 2 or 3* but inspect thoroughly first. This is beacuse we like quiet sites, generally on a farm, but we are making an exception this year and going for a pool being that it is going to be much warmer in Provence. There are some amazing sites for people with children, who need a childrens play area, pool etc, these tend to be the 48 variety. Horses for courses, but ist the sae the world over. My idea of hell would be coastal resort, hotel with a pool but many, many people do it. I guess there is a common element of adventure for those choosing to go camping in France in the first place, after all it takes more affort to pack a car and take everything with you than pack a case and get on a plane. I love camping and partiularly like camping in France, it's just set up for it. Apart from the recommendations yo7u'll get on this blog, I suggest you ahve a look at some camping websites like CAMPINGO, then input your crieria and see what comes up. Choose a region and do some research too. We have been camping in France for the last 18 years and still finding wonderful new places. the great thing about France is that they stay true to their identity and ech region has its attributes and food specailities. e.g. Bordeaux, apart from its wondeful wine, has wonderful fish recipes to try. The Alps ahve their cheese dishes, and Provence lost of veggie delights
