I came around the M25 today, aiming for the A13 to get back into east London, the M11 southbound being closed because of a car fire.
The queue backing up to get across the bridge was horrendous and this was at 5pm on a Sunday. The roundabout over the top of the M25 to join the A13 was gridlocked. What a complete shambles.
It has always been thus. I remember a particularly glorious trip northbound with a screamingly hungry tiny baby, stuck in a non-moving queue for hours. That must have been early 2000. And I also remember being stuck in it in a coach en route to a school trip in the 80's.
We got stuck in it for just under three hours (from the A12 junction round to the bridge) Whit weekend this year and missed our crossing.
This year we're hoping to hit the M25 at about 4.30/5am so *might* miss it!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We were lucky last Saturday (2nd Aug) - got off Chunnel at about 4pm and sped up the M20, Dartford Tunnel had no queues our way (looked horrendous southbound though)and M25 was clearish and M1 was fine apart from the miles of roadworks coming towards Sheffield and arrived back at Sheffield at 8.30pm - one of the better runs we've had.
We weren't as fortunate going on Fri 25th July - had to pick daughter up from a wood in Oxfordshire on the way to France, and the traffic, at 2pm onwards, from M40 to M25 and until well past Gatwick was utterly horrible and slow - pity the people who have to do this route regularly.
