Hi Fellow Caravaners
My family and l are currently On holiday
In Royan,France, we were £120 in toll
charges coming here- is this normal,
could anyone suggest a cheaper route
(with road names/numbers)
to travel back to Calais, we would really
appreciate this and so would my wallet.
Thanks in advance
David

From Royan D733 to Rochefort
Then D911 to Niort then D611 to Poitiers
D910 to Tours
D338 Le Mans, Alencon,Rouen
A28 to Abbeville
D1001 Boulogne then A16 to Calais/Dunkerque
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Probably a 4 berth pop top like this would not be big enough for you Loo8 but it does save a bob or two on the toll roads, being under two meters in height.
Just take it steady and enjoy the much more interesting route home

I hadn't factored in Toll Charges! I wonder if there will be Toll's on my route? Dunkirk to St Malo (Ish)? And what about St Malo (ish) to Disneyland Paris area?

You need to check on toll costs when planning routes. That way you're prepared with money in your wallet to pay the tolls, or a good map to use routes which avoid them.
If during your holiday planning you use a route planner such as viamichelin.fr or autoroutes.fr it will calculate you a route and give you the fuel costs and toll costs. You can then choose to select 'no tolls' and it will calculate another route without tolls. That way you can choose time over money, or money over time. For some people it's worth paying the tolls, but with a caravan they do soon mount up.
It's ALWAYS possible to get to and from any destination without paying tolls, but the toll-free route may take a lot longer, and involve frustrating hold-ups and slow sections through towns and villages.
The route from Royan to Calais using toll routes is costed as follows on one of those routes.
Estimated cost: 192.42 euros for a petrol car, towing a caravan. Tolls €104.80, Fuel €87.63 Time 08h 53 minutes, with 8 hours 4 minutes on autoroutes. Distance 793 km with 767 km on autoroutes.
The other option takes the same amount of time, and the toll cost is just 2 euros less.
The non-toll alternatives will take around 13 hours.

Viamichelin suggests €37.60 euros in tolls to St Malo, and around €40 euros from St Malo to Paris.
Thank you again Val! I had printed all my routes off with AA routeplanner. Might have to start again!

Sorry, those tolls are with caravan, but you're just in a car, so they will be less - 28 euros to Paris, and 26 euros to St Malo from Calais! Better news, perhaps!
Does the toll charges on viamichile take into count a caravan as I've checked my route and the toll charges are the same if I select car or car and caravan?
------------- I'm still trying to think of a witty comment!
As you can see from the examples, above, the tolls with a caravan are more expensive. Usually the cost with a caravan is about a third more than the cost of driving solo.
I would check again and I'd use viamichelin.fr as the British version is full of pop-ups about Eurotunnel and is very annoying! You have to select 'Rechercher' again after clicking the button for 'caravane'. Calais to Nice, for example, is €106.90 for a car, but €162.50 with a caravan. Calais to Perpignan is €73.40 solo, but with a caravan is €114.10.
