we have just returned from our first caravan holiday and the first time in a caravan in Spain.
The campsite is only 6amps, we have a single low watt (750) electric hot plate and a camping gas stove.
Any ideas on what else we can cook on, at home we have an electric multi cooker, which is so handy but too powerful for Spain. We are a family of five, so bigger the better.

The caravan does have oven and hob but it is too hot to cook inside the van
Thanks
Sarah

We take our Cadac, for bbq fish and meat, and a slow cooker. You can put this on in the morning and come back to a casserole which has used very low amp electricity. Mind you, we usually go out of season, when a piping hot casserole is just the job!
I know it gets hot in a caravan, but cooking pasta is usually quick, especially if you use ready-bought sauces.
We also buy ready roasted chickens, which most of the supermarkets sell - just serve with salad and lots of crusty bread!

I use the cadac for grilling, stirfrys etc and just do the pasta or rice or spuds on the hob in the caravan. Takes a wee bit of organisational juggling i.e. keeping oils and flavourings and stirrers and lifters beside both cooking areas. I had brought a George Foreman grill but it blew the fuses so it came home, along with the iron and the hoover (OH put them in, don't know who he thought was going to use them
We manage by 'juggling' between two rings. Get one pan boiling, take it off, get the other boiling, and swap - that way the residual heat keeps the food cooking, and you can cook three pans at one with only two rings. (or gas hobs!)
We used our halogen oven on 6 amps without any issue. Another benefit of the halogen oven is that it does not heat the van like a gas or electric oven does.
We bought ours from andrew james online as it was the only one we could find with a hinged rather than removable lid. (limited work space to put a hot lid down)
you really can cook anything you can cook in a traditional oven and with no waiting to reach temperature it saves time too.

Who needs a Remoska? I sit on the caravan step and stir fry in a wok outside on a single fierce gas ring screwed into the top of a Camping Gaz 907 gas bottle. I can cook prawns and baby squid with ginger, chilli and garlic in seconds. Noodles dunked in boiling water are ready nearly as fast. Serve with cold lager.

But can you bake a cake or do your Sunday roast on your wok???

6 amps would allow for upto 1,400 watts which with a bit of juggling is a good bit of power, I would still be able to run our kit of that as listed below.
15lt Lidl Mini-Oven fan assisted (back in store again at £30) 1380watt 5.9amp on full tilt, using just the top element 3.3amp using just the bottom element is 2.8amp, the fan assist adds 0.1 of an Amp
Induction Hob
Electric Travel kettle
Mains Lighting
Satellite TV system
Water Pump
Compressor Fridge
Phone/Camera and Ni-MH battery chargers
I made a EHU Amp Monitor which is handy for keeping your eye on the Amps being drawn, there is a post on how to make the unit under the same name. The unit simply plugs inline at the electric inlet on a caravan/motorhome, for Tent EHU use it would either have to be at the electric post or can be inserted inline in the Tent to a suitabley modified EHU (EHU Modification, yet another post)
I took an electric BBQ this year, asi resent paying for electricity and then using gas to cook! It worked brilliantly on 10 amps, but on 6 I just kept it set about half way and reset the trip in the hook up if it blew. It took a bit longer to cook but there was no rush!!
