Was looking for something to help get WiFi on the pitch in France; been on a couple of sites where we've just been out of range. SGThomas and others suggested the Alfa AWUS036h link to booster
I got one of these, but had to return it as it's only 32-bit, and doesn't work on later Macs (or, I assume, some Windows machines that are 64-bit only). I was looking at the Bearextender turbo for Mac; but after a bit of research have decided to wait for this:
They are claiming it will work with Ios (IPhones and IPads) as well, and due soon. Too late for 2014 trip! "BearExtender Edge is our first long range Wi-Fi receiver that does not require a USB connection so it can be used with iPhone or iPad and other Wi-Fi enabled devices. But BearExtender Edge is different from Wi-Fi repeaters because of it's capability to receive signals from a much greater distance than products like the standard range Apple Airport Express."
Have I missed something. or is this the Holy Grail of wifi extenders?

I have Motorhome Wifi iBoost, expensive, but very ,very effective.Does not need USB so ideal for iPad.Bought it last year to use in France, where some sites have limited cover or "cover at the bar".Found it pulled in a signal for quite a long way off, even with some trees in the way.
Using the iboost at the moment on a site at Biscarrosse and also used at the last site at Royan.
The main benefit is that it comes with a router so you have your own WiFi zone which means several devices can log on at the same time. In our case two Kindle Fires, a notebook and two smartphones.
IBoost setup looks impressive - external aerial as well. My eyes started watering at the price though! Projected price for Edge is same as Bear Turbo (about £40-60).

Just bought this piece of kit. It's the latest Alfa range extender/booster .... so, hoping it will do the trick.
Will report back when tested.
Anyone else got one?
Seems very good value at the price.

I have the 036H version, which is held together with insulating tape but still works. Clear sight range is probably around 1 km, sensibly about 400 metres. Enough for most sites.
Be interested in the updated model, although it seems to have hiked up the price.
