Looking for a place to stay 1 or 2 nights b4 we catch the
ferry back to the UK.
Have Pommiers des Trois Pays or la Bien Assise in mind……thoughts anyone. Also
will be needing to find a decent hypermarche to stock up on booze etc and fill
the tank right up.
Any ideas would be gratefully accepted. As we are coming in
from Germany, thru Belgium and then France,
is it cheaper to buy stuff b4 France?
Ferry. Is there a better day to cross than another. AS we
usually take the Pompey/Le Havre route, I don’t know the Pas
de Calais area well.
Thanks

I'm guessing you have an ACSI card? If so you could consider Kindervreugde, a smallish (doesn't have some of the facilities you'd find at la Bien Assise for instance), pleasant, very Flemish site in walking distance, across a canal footbridge, of a stretch of Duinkerkekeiweg probably better known as Tobacco Alley.
AA Ireland have a list comparing European fuel prices on their website. Never been to Luxembourg but get the impression that fuel and some other dutiable items are less expensive than in her neighbouring countries, so if it's not too far off your planned route...

If you are coming from Belgium from direction of Antwerp etc take J54b at Dunkerque which is exit before ferry port. Follow signs for 'centre commercial' 2mins off motorway. Big Auchan hypermarket with all the beer & diesel you will ever need at cheapest price. They take UK credit cards including at fuel pumps. If you are coming from Lille direction then turn left onto A16 direction Calais & its a couple of exits down.
Your cheapest ferry will probably be from Dunkerque-Dover but book online the previous day if you can because turning up at port & paying there & then will be more expensive.
There is a camping municipal in Dunkerque. Its by the sea, If you take the first exit into Dunk. coming from Belgium you will find signs to it.
If you want fags/baccy, take exit for Adinkerke which is last exit before you leave Belgium. first big baccy shop has plenty of room to park with caravan.

If you are staying at Bien Assise for a couple of nights then take a trip into Calais, there is an Auchan there as well & also some beer cash&carries such a Pidou. Google for the websites & use store locator for satnav coordinates if you like.
Probably cheapest for beer/wine is Aldi & Lidl. Plenty of branches in the area. Theres an Aldi in Guines. Check Aldi.fr website for store locator.

If you want to buy wine and beer the French supermarkets would be your best bet. Calais has at least a couple of large supermarkets, one in Calais and the other at the Cite d'Europe shopping centre. If its more modest quantities there is a Carrefour Market on the outskirts of Guines.

Dont smoke but as for booze and plonk, I'm yer man. At Munich now for a days beerfest etc then up to Karlsruhe, then thru Lux to near Namur for a visit to Brux the Dunk-Dover seems the cheapest at 62 pounds car and van!

Here 5mins from Calais Auchan. Be at Auchan for opening time 08.30, do your shopping, fill up with diesel & you should be just in time to catch your ferry.

The Calais site is a municipal so cheap enough & easy access pitches. For the Guines site you have an extra 12miles or so there & back through fairly narrow rds & town but still easy enough to get to Auchan. If you are shopping Monday you will have to get up half hr earlier.

I'm with RonPlatt on this one - he and I have been recommending Camping Fort Lapin for many years. For a last night in France ,with smart restaurants just along the seafront road for a farewell to France dinner, it has more appeal than a night at Guines.
