We were there for the last two weeks in August and had a lovely holiday.
Admittedly we only go to that kind of site for our 12 year old daughter's sake. We need a site where she will meet other British kids her own age. If she didn't come with us we would seek out smaller sites with fewer facilities and a bit less razmatazz.
Unfortunately this year the weather wasn't as kind as it was last year. One day we had pretty much constant heavy rain all day and our pitch looked like Glastonbury. Fortunately it didn't take long to dry out once it stopped raining.
The swimming pool was just as I remembered it last year. Busy, busy, busy and the same lounger hogging. Having said that though, on the couple of occasions OH and I went to the pool we managed to find a couple of beds that we could carry to a quieter spot. Our daughter loved it though and spent most of her holiday there.
The river, as ever, was stunning. The water level was higher this year than last so all the little pebble beaches were under water, leaving just the main sandy beach.
We didn't try the restaurant this year and just used the bar for afternoon ice creams and coffee. We had a couple of take away meals and enjoyed them.
The shower and washing up facilities were exactly as I remember them last year. Warm, nice and clean and never a queue.
We did notice a bit of inconsiderate behaviour on site this year. One family group who we nicknamed "The Burps" were on the pitches over the road from us. They spent most of their holiday sitting outside the caravans drinking with the men belching and burping every 5 minutes. They would get louder and louder as the day wore on before crashing and burning at bedtime. Another family a few pitches down from us would bring their badminton set and rugby ball to our pitch to play rather than playing outside their own pitch and their teenagers would congregate outside our pitch with their friends in the evening too.
None of this bothered us enough to spoil our holiday but if I was to visit the site again I would be very specific about which pitch I would request and would choose one in the very last avenue tucked away at the very bottom by the river where nobody has to pass to get to their pitch and it can't be used as a hang-out place.
