Camping Les Peneyrals say they aren't opening bookings until the end of October. I hate to leave things so late for fear when I book I'm then told sorry, 'fully booked'. All other good plots are then gone on other sites and I'm left high and dry. Bitter experience I'm afraid. Should I chill and relax? I have options on two good plots for us and friends in Moulin de Pique, but I've been there before. As fab as it is, it's nice to try something else.
Any advice on where to go on this site for peace, quiet, and some sun would be gratefully received!
Tom
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Looks to me like the last place to go for a bit of peace and quiet.
Hav you looked at the sites which line the river between say Beynac and Grolejac? Many are much cheaper, albeit without the pools and slides and offer pleasant walks into nearby villages for shop and restaurants.
As you can see I (we) am not a fan of that type of site especially in high season BUT if we had teenagers with us it would be different maybe.
It's all about the kids at the moment. Given we go to these types of sites to give them a great exeprience, then I want to find the most quiet corner! :) Normally I'm on google earth etc......
For quieter, you need to go on the pitches furthest away from the swimming pool/bar complex (fairly obvious I know). Some of the live music/kareoke can be loud - not on every night by any means. The campsite plan on the website doesn't show any pitch numbers now but as you look at the plan, you need the emplacements near the bottom lot of 'Sanitaires' - this area slopes down away from the bar area.
We stayed at Les Peneyrals last year. It is a lovely site . We felt it had a good mix - plenty for the children but still had a chilled , peaceful vibe . Its definitely not over 'commercial.
The pitches are big and shady . But big enough to put your seat in the sun !
In terms of noise - The entertainment is varied and includes bands which can be loud. The first night we got there it went on till midnight and kept us awake but I suppose we got used to it and just went to the band nights instead of trying to sleep through it !! I would suggest asking to pitch further from the entertainment , down in the valley by the lake area. I also heard dogs barking which is apparently from a local farm, but I am a light sleeper and my husband didn't hear it . We had no noise problems from other campers (like we have had at other sites) I would definitely still recommend the site and would def return .
We have just got back from Les Peneyrals and loved it and on way back to Calais decided that we want to go back next year as there is loads we still want to see and do in the area.
Just emailed the site asking when we can book for next year but it appears you have just answered my question!
We had a great pitch and really would like it there or thereabouts next year so am eager to get something booked but I guess we will just have to be patient.
Les Peneyrals is great way less commercial than it appears on the website and the pool area is way smaller in real life. The kids club is the best we've experienced since L'ardechois but more English is spoken here and a greater Brit influence so kids made friends at the kids club and met up again by the pools or for the entertainment of an evening. By day at the pitch it was extremely peaceful and relaxing, some pitches like ours were located behind the pitches on the main access roads and screened off by hedges so very private.
However, the best place to be is the lower further out area on the map where pitch access is extremely tight, for caravans it's mover or hand manoeuvred mostly. Our caravan is large and with the mover only just got us on our pitch, but it was a large pitch once on.
We would return to this site but it does operate a preference to those holidaying that year, but not as we thought to those on that pitch at that time and they do not take any deposit at this point. We walked around and found just 3 pitches which could accommodate our caravan and they, including our pitch were booked up for next year and our pitch is completely unbookable as they give preference to a family who book the same pitch year after year every year. We met a family and their friends who were on their 13th consecutive year but still seemed panicky about getting their pitched booked for the next year and this is why.
We struck lucky because we booked early November when they do finally request a deposit to secure those bookings and I imagine that holiday fever has passed and many decide to go elsewhere. I just can't be doing with that kind of bun fight for a pitch and after only 3 sunny days out of a cool 12 whilst the Cote d'Azur sunned itself at 30 degs we will head off in another direction next year. If you do book be very specific, we requested a large south facing pitch away from main access road and we got all of that, staff are very helpful and will do what they can for you including getting you on to your pitch and even lending hook up cables.
