We visited here for a couple of days this year as part of our trip to Black Forest. Its located in Rust about mid way is down Black Forest and very close to main Autobahn route 5.

Felt it was worthy of a post on its own as I didn't now anything about this place but wow what a park it is!

For those with families (and for those who enjoy theme parks) I would say its actually worth planning a trip partially at least around this place.

The park it self is huge and very enviromentally orientated with huge amounts of green space, trees and solar panels, living roofs on rides etc and whole concept is based around different lands a bit like Epcot for those who know it (even has its own Epcot Ball!)

Difference to ALL other theme parks I have been to , including Disney. Universal etc even) is the amounts and variety of actual rides and experiences and shows in the same park. There are something like 13 rollercoaster style rides including some excellent thrill rides up there with the best and numerous smaller attractions for all ages including large play areas and wet park areas.

The food (and drink less so) is also very well priced for a theme park and huge variety including all the usual fast food stuff plus some unexpected quality stuff as well including a restaurant with a michelin star and the very fun Food Loop restaurant where you order on your own computer and gets delivered on a mini looped train system to your table!

Even if you don't like rides you will find enough here to enjoy your time with your family. Ride queues can be long at peak times (up to an hour was longest we saw but they all keep moving and are well planned) as no fast pass or priority queuing on any rides (Disney take note here!) and the theming on much of the park and within the rides is genuinely second to none compared to many other similar parks and of a quality you really do need to be in Florida to match

So very expensive then? No that is the final huge plus - this place makes places like Alton Towers and Thorpe Park ,and especially DLP seem even more expensive than they already are. A decent Euro rate helps but genuinely good value and allow at least two days (we could have done three to be honest to repeat some of the big rides) if going at peak periods.

Having done Florida again last year this was a huge unexpected bonus how good this place was (obviously can;t match the whole Florida experience but knocks DLP into a cocked hat I would say) and if you check out Tripadvisor you can see why it rated as it is on there.

Agree, Europa park is my favourite Theme Park.

We went there two years running with one child that loved roller coasters and one youngster who screamed on nearly all the rides aimed at little kids at DLP. Both loved it.

I remember waiting for well over 40 mins for the Cars ride at DLP, get small car, go round track, get off. Europa Park had several such rides that were pretty much walk on, ride, get off and straight back on again. This was in mid August.

The planting and landscaping is immaculate, shows really good fun. One little feature I loved with a small child was the little bits of water you'd come across. Little stream to splash in as parents walked on the path, fountains, a cafe with little waterfall and pools for them to cool off in.

We were staying in a pre-excited tent in the Black Forest both times and didn't have gear to use the camp site bit. First year we rented one of their tipis right by the camping. The next we stayed at the Bell Rock that had just opened hotel. We chose that because it had air conditioning but the other themed hotels looked good fun too.

Thanks Soup Dragon - we have already said we may go back in a year or so and stay at one of the hotels so that is useful. The whole area round by Spain and where the hotels are accessed is so well done

Agree about all the little extras touches that set this apart, the fountain walkways and things like that all really add to the experience

Lovely that its still family owned and very proudly too

Went there a few years ago and we all agreed that it was the best Theme Park we had seen.

If it was Disney or Universal branded so many more would be raving about the place :)

Just found this post again after reading before. Must say that I'm a little tempted to go for our inaugural trip across the channel.
I was thinking Brittany at somewhere like Du Letty and doing DLP on the way home. This is actually nearer from Dunkirk.
Can anyone tell me if there are Water-park style campsites in this part of Germany, as if the site facilities were good, we wouldn't miss the beach.

Glad you found it useful Frannyvan. Can't help with water park campsites and we did miss the beach yes, and are heading back to west coast of France next year!

We stayed at Munstertal campsite which was great and loads to do, but no water slides on site. Might be worth looking for water parks that have campsites next to or nearby?

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole area and German experience to be honest, we just missed the beach and being close to the sea - will definitely go back at some point though, and especially so to Europa Park

Hmmm, was thinking that too. Saw a lovely Eurocamp site but that was near Hamburg.
Also now worried that will be harder for our 10 year old to make friends. Friends of ours went to Du Letty and there were English kids to play with. Germany doesn't look as popular with British families.
Perhaps we should look at going there seperately, as does look great.
Thanks for the recommendation

No problem - that will be exactly what we will do and possibly drive without caravan for a long weekend at some point and stay on site or in the town itself (Rust) I would think

Just a thought there is a campsite onsite at Europa Park I believe and I assume you can take your own caravan there, so maybe you could do a stay there for maybe 3 nights or so and move on elsewhere?

Yes, there is a campsite so you can use Europe Park as a stop over.

We stayed in onee of the tipis there one year but it's right by the camping field and you can she the same facilities. There's a small swiming lale, play equipment for young kids, some evening entertainment, restaurant and pub.

This campsite is very good value and has water slides ... it's not far (about 4 miles) from Rust.
