Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The Caravan Club price for similar crossings (for two adults as you don't give party details) is £397.00, so not much saving when you add on the membership joining fee.
We have took our pennine fiesta on this ferry route last year . We are members of the C and C club and found that they weren't able to offer much of discount at all on the crossing, particularly at peak times - in fact only for one way of the journey and for very inconvenient crossings. We did however save a lot by booking a night stopover on the way and a night on the back in a eurocamp tent. Even with the cost of the stopovers, all in all we saved hundreds on the ferry by booking through eurocamp.
About measurements - our is 1.3 m high for towing , I Wonder if you have got confused with the height when erected ? If so you might get it even cheaper !

I've a Kia Sedona which is massive in comparison and it's only 1.95 without roof box

To me that is a ridiculous price. You would save about £300 or so by going from Dover.
Ok, it is further to drive but total travel time will be about the same and even with an overnight stop en route and the extra fuel you will still be quids in.

Western channel better for Royan than Calaiswhen doing an over nighter as it only a 4:5 hr drive refreshed after a nights kip as opposed to 8 to 9 hr drive with less ( or no) tolls knackered after driving Yorkshire to Dover and on again
BUT as I initially misread the OP AND since Tillet is arriving at Caen at 21:45 then will have to stop over any way then Dover seems a better call
Either do the later crossing from Portsmouth pay for a cabin instead of a hotel. Or do Dover Calais and book the ibis at euro tunnel exit
