I'm going to buy a freeview box for the van.  According to others in this forum, it works pretty good in good reception areas with the status aerial.   I know that UK tellies don't work in France 'cos we're PAL and they're something else (is that the right way round?)  But as the freeview box is a digital system, will it get euro digital signals while abroad, or are they preset to receive UK channels?

Any techie boffins know the answer?  I know that uk digital radios don't get euro radio so I'm not too hopeful

Alternatively will just sit outside with a glass of wine till bedtime.

OK Michael thanks,  I've tried that but I note that the heading is Satellite for caravans and I'm using an aeriel!  Worth a try though.   Anyone any experience of freeview abroad?

Freeview boxes will not work abroad, I'm afraid. They are programmed to receive UK digital transmission signals only.

This is the reply I got, for info of others with an interest.   Hope it's ok to post this with links.

No, Freeview boxes only work within reach of a UK transmitter. But satellite equipment is pretty cheap these days. You can now buy a brand new Pace DS430N for little more than £100, a domestic oval dish for about £20 and a signal meter for £10. That will get you Sky News virtually anywhere in Europe, and all the BBC channels throughout most of France. A £20 viewing card will give you ITV, Channel 4 and Five as well (though to get those, and the BBC, in Spain you'll need a fairly large dish). Full details on my website.
Regards
David Sullivan.
