When we returned in August last year we saw large numbers ( over 50 ) of immigrants roaming the eurotunnel queues and climbing under lorries. They were not threatening though and were only interested in Lorries.
Didn't seem interested in caravans at all for some reason.

We saw 3 black men walking near the motorway in early July. Still wondering if they were asylum seekers or if I'm a racist.
We had a good drive around, took in the Fort Lapin campsite etc etc .... didn't see anyone who looked any more furrin than us.
It's probably important to keep it all in perspective. Calais isn't a big city and the hinterland is rural. About 10% of those who arrive on the Med coast get as far as Calais. That's a lot for a little town but not necessarily zillions. What we see on tv is the odd occasion when it all kicks off, and we don't necessarily believe all we read in the press.

However, I have been through Calais many more times and never experienced any problems whether from natives, visitors or those just passing.
Although now in Essex I come from Merthyr Tydfil, and like anywhere else it has it's bad points, but equally it has some lovely areas surrounding it to visit.
Me too
Family were there for 160 years
but most immediate family have left now
Some super countryside just North

Well would you want to travel with someone from Wrinklies on sea?
It is inconceivable that the, would be, immigrants are that desperate.
PS Welshwynn: Congratulations upon moving to Essex
Just been over using the tunnel for a week and saw no one going or returning. You are quickly on the motorway going and straight off the motorway into the terminal coming back so seems little opportunity. Did see a lot of barbed wire and any little nooks and crannies in the terminal seemed to be protected by wire etc.

Is that the best joke you could come up with? Can't think why you'd want to bring Frinton into the conversation.

In Dunkirk they searched everything.
In July we were asked if they could inspect our motorhome. We asked if they needed the step to enter and they said no but we put it down anyway. That was OK.
In October they were working all through the waiting vehicles and the man very gruffly insisted we let the step down for his inspection. We did - he got in and inspected - then fell out!!! He had thought there was only one step when there are in fact two! Luckily he wasn't injured!!
