After deciding on western France for our holiday next year, we have changed our plans due to ferry costs.
We have now decided to use tunnel on tesco vouchers to save money and holiday that side of country.
Children want to go to Disney so doing a week in Paris area.
Looking for additional week and thinking Germany.
Narrowed down to mosselle area possible Cochem. Or Rhine possible Rudesheim.
Any one been to both and can recommend best for family holiday with teens in July.
Normally booked next years holiday by now but can't make up mind.
Regards.
Milly

Both the Mosel and Rhine area are good. My choice would be the later.. To do this you could have a look at a child friendly site, with good free swimming near to Bitburg is Prumtal Camping. Close to Luxembourg too. Could give you more info but too much to write on here email dvphillips14 at hotmail.com

Last time we went through to Austria, I looked for interesting things to see/do en route then looked for sites in the area.
This site has lots of interesting places.

Milly consider the Black Forest if coming down East side from Paris.

Also consider taking in Europa Park which is in mid Black Forest at Rust (I would do instead of DLP personally and have potentially a better time and save money!)

Lots of touristy things to do and see in area

Hi
Thanks for all replies. Now looking at Black forest too. Is free transport available at many campsites within that area. Would be handy as my hubby tends to do all the driving.
If we just book tunnel and go without prebooking sites and just go where we fancy will we have problems with availability first 2 weeks of July.
Always planned rigidly until now but fancying being more flexible as children grown up.
Regards

It should not be too busy German school holidays do not start till mid July and there are no Bank Holidays in the first two weeks. Even so it would not hurt to email or phone your sites 3 days ahead foe availability .look at Trend Camping in the centr of Black Forest and good free transport from near the campsite.

If you stay within the Black Forest you should get free Konus card which gives you free travel on local network and some discounts on some entries

We stayed at Mustertal which is the site Madasaman links to and yes was very nice. Very busy and popular though so may want to book. They do have some new super pitches on the right hand side of site now which will be a lot more spacious and have better views than those on left hand side. Cash only for payment however (many German sites may have this as they sue a different credit card system in many places)

Munstertal is in southern Black Forest and around 30 minutes away from Europa Park up the "5" autobahn (great fun if you have a fast car to actually use it aswell!)

We stayed here with a twin axle van a couple of years ago, pitch 306 if I remember rightly. Lovely area, hills, forests, waterfalls etc, a great drive through the hills on the way to Basel, an hours drive maybe from Europa Park. As others have said, the free travel card is excellent, we took the train into Freiburg which is a lovely town.

That's a great list, think that's the official tourism page of Germany. Lonely planet' got a decent list as well and I also like the list of things to do on the crazy tourist.
