Hi all,

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

I have booked our crossing this year (Plymouth - Roscoff) with the idea of staying somewhere in between Benodet & Concarneu (sp).
The only site that is drawing in me in so far seems to be Camping Du Letty.

Does anyone know of any similar standard smaller sites that might not be as expensive? We can only go for 7 nights (hence no long drive South).

Set-up is large (6 berth) family tent, need hook up & water if poss, enough space to fit stove on pitch (no roughing it for us!) dates are first week of summer holidays. 2 adults, 2 children.

Would like to try and get it in for under £300 for the week...

Many thanks for your advice in advance!

Are you looking for somewhere with the same sort of pool complex as Du Letty?  Which sites have you considered?  Have you looked on the campsite search on this forum?  There are plenty of alternatives, none of which will be as expensive as Du Letty but then they won't have all the facilities that you pay so much for at Du Letty.

A site at Benodet, nearish to the beach, and with good pools and good reviews, is Le Poulquer.  Prices are more modest than Du Letty, with the high season prices on the right.  So two adults, at 7.20 each, a pitch at 7.50, electricity at 4.50 and then the children at whatever price should fit your budget nicely.

Between Benodet and Concarneau is a very restricted stretch of coast - a mere ten miles I think . If you are willing to widen your search area I might be able to help.

hi multicoloured socks,

we  have  done  camp du letty for the past two years, booked  again for august this year  for two weeks, same as yourself  booked  plymouth roscoff, first year we did portsmouth- caen  but  approx 250mile drive from caen, whereas roscoff only 70miles approx 1.30  to benodet,  as  val  a  replied  it depends what you want from your holiday,  we have a 13yrs old son  and  can honestly say  we  never see much of him once at the campsite,  the pool complex, campsite activities, and the added bonus of being  right on the beach   make this campsite  well worth  the extra expense,  looked  at  the camp  that  val  gave prices for  last  year, but  it is a poor relation  to du letty, good  mix  of  campers  loads of english  returning  every year, i can honestly  say  i  never thought of returning  to the same place for three years, but  the  campsite  and  benodet  & surrounding  area  of  brittany  is as good as you"ll  find  anywhere, whats a few extra quid  when keeping  the kids happy wil make your holiday,  bon  voyage,  paul.

Thank you all for your responses.

The other campsite does look good - thanks Val. Yes I have been trawling this site for a few days looking for the best options & narrowing down a search area.

Ben1701 - do you know if the showers are now free or is it an additional coast? And also would we need to book a comfort pitch or would a standard pitch be adequate for our needs? (We can do without the water access if needs be!)

Again, thanks in advance.

I'm not Ben1701 , but we booked du Letty for this summer and our reservation said that showers are free now.

hi multicolouredsocks,    yes  the  showers  are  free  as  from last year,  standard pitches  are fine,  the  one  we have had  for  the  last  two  years  is   les   chardons bleu 4   no1 pitch,  it  is  not  too  far  from  all  the  facilities,  very  close  to  showers  and  toilet block & washing  up  facilities,  also  launderette  on  same block,  you  can  view the sea from this  pitch,  if  you  need  any  advice  about  anything   before you go   just  drop  us  an  e-mail   at    paul.bwfc at ntlworld.com, and  i  will  get  back  to  you  asap, pity  you"re  not  their  in august  so we could have a beer  together,   you  certainly  won"t  be dissapointed  at  this  site,   cheers,   paul.

Les Sternes is located between the beach and water park with facilities at either end.

Depending how you pitch and how many others are in the section it could be a bit tight for a twin.

Both times we visited we had to move as our single would not fit on the pitch allocated. That said once sorted we had a wonderful time.

Staff are great wild geese. First year we went we did not arrive till 9.30 in the evening as I had not realised we were travelling on black Saturday.

Van would not fit on the pitch but staff said no bother and gave us a choice of pitches to move to in the morning.

Suited me as all I wanted was a beer and get my head down after 14 hours driving! Moved in the morning and had a fabulous holiday there.
