Hello again one of a long list of silly questions I am sure. Have finally managed to get a ferry deal to Le Havre for our trip in July. Problem is the Ferry gets in at 10pm so too late to go to the campsite. where do you good people suggest we look to stay for the night that is no too expensive, around the Le Havre area. Do they have deals like travel lodges over there or the equivalent? Dont want to pitch the tent at that time of night and most campsites would not let you on site.

some campsites near ports do cater for late arrivals . remember going to le havre when i was a kid & stopping at La Foret de Montgeon on the outskirts of town.dunno if the sites still there ,20+ years ago i last went ,might be worth doing a search.....
Some campsites, do allow late arrivals, but no cars through the gate after a certain time. If your tent is not to heavy, just carry it on site and pitch it. Call some sites to check. Some municipals close the gate, but do not lock it. If pre-agreed you might open the gate and get on the site, especially if you would stay for 2 or 3 nights to see around in the area. It would need calling or mailing some sites.
Thanks for the replies but our tent is too big to pitch at that time of night. Normally takes 1 1/2 hours to set it all up.Dont want that hassle at 11pm at night after a long drive and crossing. Just looking for a cheap hotel for one night where we can park up with all our stuff.hopefully in a secure area.

Try Formula One (part of the Accor Group) or Bonsai - both Budget chains. My parents often use Formula One and find them basic but clean and fine for an overnight stay or two. Not sure of the websites but both have them, a search should point you in the right direction.
We had the same problem when we arrived at Cherbourg last summer, but you should find that most good campsites around or near the French ports are geared up to the timings for late arrivals and early departures.cant give you a site near Le Harve but if you look in Alan Rogers camping in Europe ( the site bible we used for 7 countries last year) you will find sites that can cope with late arrivals.
Great thanks for the advice sound just what I am looking for. Will follow it all up this weekend and get it booked in advance so there are no worries. Thanks again.
I believe theres a chain called Bonsai (I think) that have 2/3 bedded rooms side by side. These rooms have something like a sliding panel/interconnecting door to make a big room which will take 5 people.
Never used them, Only read about them and seen them advertised.
Hi My Family and I are taking our Trailer Tent to France in Aug 05 for the first time. The campsite we are saying in is called La Croix Du Vieux Pont in Berny Riviere I was wondering has anyone stayed there, and any info about this campsite or any advice on France would be great.
