Hi all, just thought I'd ask if anyone has driven the Paris route early hours of the morning? We've booked soleil plage and usually drive via Rouen but this year I'm thinking of booking the eurotunnel for approx 11pm then drive for a couple of hours towards Paris, stop for a cat nap for an hour before negotiating Paris.
I have driven this route about four or five years ago, it was lunchtime on a Saturday and it frightened the life out of me but it was my first time driving abroad.
All help is most welcome and suggestions for safe stops also.

Approach Paris on A1, switch sat nav off, after the airport follow big motorway signs for Bordeaux,

At Orleans follow signs for Limoges. Then get map out. Cheers.

That time it should be fluid enough & dead easy. From Calais take A26/A1 autoroutes & once you pass under Charles DeGaulle airport look for signs A10 Bordeaux, there are these signs at every stage, the route takes you around middle ring rd & onto A10 for Orleans & downwards.

If you are going to stop for a kip on the way the sensible advice would be to park on autoroute services in front of main building if poss. Avoid the unstaffed/unserviced parking areas.

Thank you. I thought it would be "quiet". We went to Gien a while ago so I've experienced the route but it was the traffic I was more worried about. I was so worried last time while going over on the ferry I thought I was going to be sick!!!!

we've driven via Paris every year and never had an issue. We usually hit Paris mid morning on our way down and early PM on way back up to Calais. maybe luck ?

We are also at Soleil Plage late July / early Aug but driving from Caen for the first time this year

Hi, we'll have to have a wine then. Are you driving direct to soleil plage or stopping half way? How long have you factored for the drive. I've yet to book the return as I'm thinking of the overnight ferry from Caen to Portsmouth and I'm unsure of how long it would take.

Inner Péripherique on Friday afternoon with a caravan has to be experienced_NOT!
Missed a junction so ended up on it,very heavy traffic lunatic motorcyclists no prisoners taken!
Coming back the outer péripherique (N104) is much better!

You could also try the A16 past Amiens and around/through Paris. It is not quicker but the A16 is quieter than the A26/A1 and more interesting route, in my opinion.

Hi. Yes anything with wine is acceptable ;-)

We will drive in one day from port to Sarlat, it's approx 380 miles which is less than we covered last year from port. I think it will take approx 10 hours with a couple of breaks. It's the first year we have booked the overnight ferry so have no experience but with Dover Calais getting more expensive it made more sense to shorten the drive as our car is a little thirsty when towing at speed!

I agree, from looking at the dover-calais prices I think we'll book Portsmouth-Caen both ways next year. I've booked the train going out but left the return for a few weeks. I'm clinging onto the hope the price will come down even though I know it'll never happen - I looked last night £380 with a cabin, we have a 4 and 9 year old and I'm reluctant to book with just seats as I don't think either of them will sleep.

i know what you mean. We booked via eurocamp independent this year as it was better value than booking direct with the ferry, plus they had availability at Soleil Plage which wasn't available direct.

We paid £1700 for 4 ( our girls are 6 and 9 ) for 18 nights inc ferry with outside cabin both ways and insurance. We get penalised on the ferry as our van is almost 8 metres shipping length and we take bikes on roof of car.

If you haven't got an in car dvd I would recommend it, ours are quite happy to watch 2 or 3 films and then you're almost there.
