I am thinking of going to this event in September, to enjoy the classic car racing, and the town itself, does anyone have any experience of it, or indeed and campsite suggestions, Thanks in advance

Angouleme I remember it well, I knew I wanted the D174 going South to Challais but came across a signpost offering me Bordeaux or Autre routes. I knew I did not want Bordeaux so took the other turn, this eventually fired me out towards Perigeaux. So I turned around, keeping it short I drove round and round the centre of Perigeaux taking every possible combination of turnings for the next hour. I eventually stopped to ask in a bar and was propositioned by what can only be described as a lady of the night. After a quick exit I had to carry on down the road I was on and about an mile later finally found a signpost for the road I wanted. Lovely place.
On the way home I found out that I should have followed Bordeaux as there was another turn off a couple miles later with the correct signpost.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Last year we met some Dutch people who had been there and said there were not as many cars there as in previous years so they were a little disappointed. However it seems that this year is the 75th anniversary of the event so I imagine it will be good. We will go to watch if we are in the area! OH has ideas of going in AH sprite!!
We are going to keep looking at the website

for developments.
Campsites appear to be a bit sparse in the area but I have found one at Bignac in the ACSI CC book. Alternatively there must be an aire nearby.
We have bypassed Angouleme many times and found it really easy. It's a great area.

Camping du plan d'eau at St Yrieix sur Charente is very close to the city. It's fairly new so you may not find in older site guides, but details on the Angouleme city website. Four star, very modern, usual full facilities including EHU, and costing about 16 euros per night for two people - a bit higher than that in July and August.
We used to spend our summers at Les Peupliers in Couhé (which would be a bit far for you,. probably) and went to Angouleme sightseeing. Lovely place but we had to scarper because the Tour was about to arrive & we'd have never got out. It's the city of cartoons and has cartoons on walls in the street, which is kind of neat.
The Camping du Plan d'Eau at Angouleme looks nice enough.
We visited Angouleme when staying at Camping Marco de Bignac. It's a great site. Woderfully peaceful and relaxing. I think it's about 30 mins from Angouleme. I did put a review on here. here's a link to thier website. http://www.marcodebignac.com/
Thanks everyone, I will check out the suggestions, meanwhile what is the parking situation for a Motorhome in Angeloume itself, obviously will have to drive and park up while enjoying the motor racing event
Lesliehs, with a campsite at St Yrieix and a bus every 20 minutes or so for the two mile journey into the city, will you bother to take the motorhome into town and try to park it?
