If this is a first trip to France, then I'll happily recommend Le Chant d'Oiseau in the Loire

The reason being that the owners are English and they have a wealth of knowledge to share.

It is central in the Medoc Peninsula. About 5 miles from either the Atlantic or the Gironde estuary. Lovely smaller site, good pool and excellent cycling around. If you get bored then Bordeaux is about 12 miles to the South
