Now the mutts are getting towards their golden years we still want to go to France but don't want to drive and drive.
With this in mind we are looking at Quimper in Brittany. Ideally we'd like a site within easy walking distance of the town for cafe's, markets and so on.
Does anyone have any ideas? Dog friendly obviously but other than that providing there are clean loos and EHU I don't really mind.
Suggestions welcomed - thanks in advance.

In Quimper, as in other French towns, the municipal campsite is the one closest to the centre.

hi david, for the last two years we have been to camp du letty in benodet, it ticks all the boxes you are looking for in a campsite, dogs allowed, e h u with water on each pitch, and loads on the site for all ages, the town of benodet is a 15min stroll from the campsite, which has loads of bars, shops, a lovely beach and weekly market, what may interest you is the bus from outside the campsite runs half hourly to quimper for about 2euros, it takes around 30mins, so you would have the best of both worlds, staying in a seaside resort, with the option of travelling into quimper anytime, quimper is a beautiful town in brittany, very historic but not sure if it is the ideal place to stay for your holiday, camp du letty is not the cheapest campsite to stay, and there are other campsites within benodet to check out, but the amenities especially the pool complex and being on the beach, make the extra few pounds worth your hard earned holiday,

Very expensive ... and ... you pay more for everything ... wifi, table tennis, tennis, squash, showers et al ... seems to be a money making machine.
Having said that ... reviews are very good ... though many from 'first timers' to France, so may not have experienced considerably cheaper sites elsewhere?

Le Letty is a wonderfully equipped family - focussed site with a better-than-most places aquatic park, and hugely popular for holiday makers with children.
BUT the site is only open from 20 June to 4 September and during that time 542 pitches can mean well over 2000 people on site. Not all of us enjoy those numbers or want to be restricted to those very limited dates. Or, as you say, pay their prices.
And it's at Benodet which isn't the most interesting place in the world.

We are staying across the river from Benodet at Le Helles in Sainte Marine. A lot cheaper and should be quieter than Le Letty but no waterpark.

Don't forget the other direction, the less expensive / less upmarket area between Concarneau and Nevez. There are a host of nice coastal sites here (that are cheaper than the more expensive Benodet area, eg Deux Fontaines ), lots of good places to go (eg Pont Aven, Concarneau, Kerascoet), and still less than 30 mins from Quimper.

Hi David
I'm a BIG fan of Du Letty. When our kids were small we went there for a number of summers in a row and then returned there in Summer 2011 and 2012. Yes it is expensive but it has as super location right on the beach and lots of free facilities, including the super water park. As to the size of the site, yes it is large but the pitches are broken up into hedged "paddocks" of c8 pitches. The site is very well managed and certainly a peaceful place.
If you want to see some photos and read my journal of our 2011 holiday there you can see it if you google "big tim caravan holidays europe" ('m not allowed to post a link to that site). Look at "Brittany Parts 4&5".
I have to say in 20 years of Contintental camping originally as a tenter and more recently as a c'vanner it's one of my favourite sites.
Best wishes
Tim
