DFDs ferry
Newcastle to amsterdam any views or information on this crossing .
My son lives in Amsterdam and is thinking of staying in the Lake District.
When visiting us he always comes via Dover. But I thought new salt may be worth looking at .

Or Rotterdam to Hull as a possible alternative, with a 'detour' through the Yorkshire Dales on his way to the Lake District!

Been informed years ago that DFDS to/from Newcastle is EXPENSIVE compared to them going to/from other ports.

No one knows why either....

We did this crossing last year. We were very happy with the service and price. It's not anymore expensive than the overnight channel crossings with cabin. We did take our own food, though, because food on board, like all ferries, is pricey. It's like a wee mini cruise where you can sunbathe on deck and relax!

It's a good ferry service. It all comes down to whatever suits you best. Calais-Dover will almost always be cheaper but you need to factor in driving time and fuel costs.
